Yes to the first, and I think no to the second. I think less and less of his intellect each passing moment though, so I suppose there is a possibility that I could think he is more intelligent if the season starts with another goalie but still think he is less intelligent than I think at this moment.

Statistically, he was kind of equivalent to Mason last season.

But if the work-ethic comments are true, at least the CBJ won't have a situation where he and the team have given up on each other by mid-November. ANd that will be a major step forward, in my opinion.

Solid pick up. We need some more goalie depth though. As a fan of both teams I won't make a proposal, but he should be hitting up Colorado for one of their prospects (they just signed 4 of them) that they won't have room for without using the ECHL.

For example, he set out to improve his puckhandling for last season; there was a dramatic improvement in that area from the season before. If he can keep doing that for other flaws in his game you guys will have a good goalie.

However, he needs good coaching to develop to his potential. He's never had a goalie coach, and there are some serious doubts about Reese in Philly. Hopefully you guys have somebody good. I don't think Bob is a sure thing, but if handled and coached right he could turn into something.

Flyers fans really like Bob for his attitude, work ethic, and down to earth personality. Once you start reading interviews from this guy you'll see why he was popular.
Thanks for the overview. I especially like the bolded.... If Steve Mason had that commitment he wouldn't have fallen like he has. Attitude and work ethic can take you a long way.

If it is "competitive" and not Bobrovsky #1 in a walk, we've got problems. There are midget players that could be competitive with Steve Mason.

I really like this move.

I'll like it a lot more if it's not the only goalie move.
I'll like it a lot less if it is the only goalie move.

I don't think it's a bad move on their part. We've seen that Mason has some serious skill. With all the talk of Mason having work ethic and ego issues some competition might make them into a decent duo.

Comments like that are part of the wheeling and dealing of a day like today but I don't think any of the other GMs are that stupid.

I do not understand this fanbase anymore. I'm not thrilled or excited by the idea of Bob as a starter, but some of the reactions here seem a little silly.
Unfortunately it's not just our fanbase.... Here's what I've learned on HF boards:

CBJ fan: Offer draft pick X for player Y.
HF: You loser. You overrate draft picks so much. Proven talent trumps draft picks all the time.

OR

Other Fan: OMG...we ***** the CBJ. They traded picks for that loser. don't they know you keep every pick in a rebuild.
CBJ Fan: Are you not aware of our current depth chart and the need for player X?
Other Fan: You got taken. Suck it.

Something to that effect. I've come to understand that's just the way it is. If it isn't stats driven there can be no sense.

This man speaks the truth. I saw the defense live and if anyone else has seen it you'll know why they are looking for some defensemen. What Bob (and Bryz) went through was the inverse to Columbus (ie. Mason making the defense look bad vs. the defense making the goalie look bad....)

My sentiments EXACTLY, but I have a sick feeling this is the only substantial goalie move we'll see.

Well, after hearing news of this trade I was able to eat and hold down lunch. Now that I've finished and started reading Howson's comments regarding Mason, I think I'm ready to projectile vomit my lunch on my computer.

Howson has to be in denial about Mason or Mason has naked pictures of Howson, something. It is unfathomable to me how he could even say that he'd risk putting him in goal for this team. Again, I'm hoping that it's all posturing and he's got a deal to send Mason to somebody for a pack of gum, a 2 litre of Diet Coke and 4 expired Subway coupons (sort of the Dodgeball package), but that would probably be an insult to gum, Diet Coke and Subway.

Then he should have great success here, given our high level of all-star defensemen and defensive forwards to help him return from last year's dip.

Not a chance. You may find someone to offer a late first but I just don't see it. dwindling options to move him and that contract is not appealing at his age.

I'm fine with the deal. A player in the NHL right now in exchange for three Maybes (and, knowing CBJ scouting, never-would-bes).

I also find it interesting that every deal with ties to Antoine Vermette involved a goalie:
-Vermette to Columbus for Leclaire and a 2nd
-Vermette to Phoenix for McElhinney and picks
-Bobrovsky to Columbus for picks including a PHX 4th from the Vermette deal.

Then I read this...
