How about the one about wanting to sign in Carolina? Kind of screwed us with that. You think Toronto is going to offer peanuts for a guy who is just riding out a year until he can go where he wants?
show me where he said that? all I've seen is speculation
Was there ever anything stated by Staal that he wants to go to Carolina?
When McKenzie first brought that up it was phrased as SPECULATION not that I'd expect people to tell the difference. Since then Yohe and Rossi have jumped on that? Well duh.
No, Yohe actually claimed to have it on good authority that the info was legitimate.
Listening to Seidel, Starkey and Miller on the Fan. All Jordan Staal talk. Wow, I love Jordan Staal but these guys place him at a super high level.
Seidel says Staal is working on a Hall of Fame career.
Starkey says that Staal was smart to turn down 6mill per, that he can get easily 8-9mill from another team. He says Staal has 40, 50 goal potential.
I hate how hockey stupid the Pittsburgh media is. It's embarrassing to listen to. Thanks for sharing though. At least that gave me a heads up not to turn the radio on today.
they are dumb. he may have been smart to turn down 6 mill per, and may have 40 goal potential. 8-9 million no way
Agreed, but I'll bet on 7-8M.
You know, this is why I keep thinking Toronto. Burke gets him and offers something north of 7.5M front loaded like there is no tomorrow. Sounds nuts, but he's got to win now. At the very least a mega offer from any team that acquires him gets him to talk, just as quickly as the Pens offer shut things down.
I am going to be foruming from a plane in about 6 hours.... so I hope Staal is traded to make a 4 hour flight a lot easier. Thank God for Wifi on planes!
Staal has the potential to be a 60-70 point guy & Selke caliber player for years to come. If you think we can replace that you are wrong. I think a lot of the people who are "Just let him go. Good for Him!!" Are underselling his value & how much it hurts us if we get nothing for him.
BUT, there is a difference between being willing to negotiate with Carolina and ONLY being willing to negotiate with Carolina. The first is obvious. The second, I still doubt. Makes a lot more sense to think Staal, if traded to Buffalo, would be willing to talk if Darcy Reiger offered his agent everything he'd be asking on July 1, 2013. Yeah, no big bro, but he'd actually be on a team with brighter prospects.
You're right, there is some leeway there semantically, but I just don't see him "naming names" unless he's basically trying to put off other suitors.
It's NOT speculation. Yohe and Mckenzie, that I know of for sure, reported that Staal's desire to go and willingness to negotiate with Carolina was legitimate. Who do you think told them that, the tooth fairy?
question: did it say he would refuse to sign anywhere else? Answer: no he did not
there's also a report saying he might still sign here.
No, Yohe actually claimed to have it on good authority that the info was legitimate.
Yohe said Staal only would negotiate if traded to Carolina?
Again, I get the 'he'd talk' with Carolina. But, does that preclude discussions no matter where else he's moved, because that's what is being suggested here.
No, Yohe actually claimed to have it on good authority that the info was legitimate.
Well then thats that right? By all means continue to get angry....
Also I very rarely listen to The Fan and never listen to them about hockey for more than a few minutes. They sound like casual hockey watchers I have to listen to at coffee machines during the season.

do you think he went out, found a reporter and said he wanted to go to Carolina? He was probably asked if he'd be interested in playing with his brother. he probably said yes.
that right there is enough to cause the information we are seeing to spread. it is not enough to be mad at him. I'd love to work with my brother. I'm not going to turn down better jobs to do it.

not a huge staal fan, but try not to bash him, but this right here is enough reason NEVER EVER to listen to that station again. i was pleased with his offense this season, but to put him in a 40-50 goal range is just effing ridiculous. his shot accuracy is pretty bad, his offensive vision isnt even close to that of stamkos, sid, ovi and malkin, neal, kessel. not to mention sid, stamkos, geno and ovi have have hit 50 recently.

Here's what I think you've got: Rutherford knows having Eric means, if he acquires Jordan, then Jordan would be willing to talk and he may sign an extension.
For some teams, like Columbus, he'd never talk.
BUT, I still say the other teams mentioned at suitors, he is not unwilling to talk if they offered him right now everything he'd ask for on July 1, 2013.
Frankly, Rutherford is going to have to offer him that, or having big brother won't amount to **** in the end.

that's why you trade him and get the best you can out of him. we can't let him walk. at the same time, if we do let him walk we don't have a right to be mad at him for it.
I still have that feeling a GM is going to overpay for Staal tonight(if he gets traded). I hope he does.
Value is in the eye of the beholder, but I still say Shero will get value in the end.
Here's the thing: If he moves Staal tonight, it's because he gets that value. If he doesn't, then it wasn't on the table and he'll just wait until July 1 when teams start missing out on targets.
do you think he went out, found a reporter and said he wanted to go to Carolina? He was probably asked if he'd be interested in playing with his brother. he probably said yes.

Lost in all this madness is our organizational center depth...or lack thereof.
Why was Crosby, Malkin, Staal so vital? Because we literally have NOTHING else. If anything, Shero needs time to build up a little center depth for us to be in OK shape in a post-Staal situation.
Also, without all THREE, we definitely need to upgrade the wings. Like serious upgrades. We can't afford the limited upside of 4 players such as Kunitz, Cooke, Kennedy and Dupuis anymore. 2-3 maybe, but not all four.
I've said it before, but moving any of the three centers means a pretty significant change in roster up front.
Shero needs time to make this work, not gun-to-head haste.
