Homer knows he hit the jackpot with Cooter and completely lucked out, I don't see him going anywhere. I enjoy seeing it confirmed over and over again, makes me believe it might have some weight behind it.

Should make an attempt..him or Leddy...

Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times: The Blackhawks are still dangling defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson.

“Our objective is not to make a splash,” said Bowman, who confirmed his pursuit of goalie Martin Brodeur. “Our objective is to win hockey games.“Our objective is to put a team on the ice that is going to give us the best chance to win the Stanley Cup next year. You have to look, and it’s not like we have seven holes to fill.”

I'd be all over Hjhjhjhjhalmarsssssson. Dude can play and at only $3.5 for next two years is a pretty good deal.

Timonen-Coburn
Schenn-Hjalmarsson
Grossman-Mez
Lilja

Looks good to me.

He's good but he doesn't exactly replace what we lost in Carle.

Yea he is mostly a defensive defender. You won't replace Carle's offensive numbers with him. He usually will give you 15 points a year. I would prefer a more offensive defender to come our way.

If I had to choose it's Leddy. He'd replace some puck-movement lost in Carle.

But neither really helps us at this point.
We have a borderline #1 in Timonen and a whole lot of #2-4 guys. What we need is that one anchor.

Hopefully there are big plans for us to work on the shootout.

Who says we're getting worse/plateauing? We're filling minor holes, and our young players will be 1 year stronger, more skilled, and more prepared for the NHL and the Flyers system.

I don't hate what we've done:
- A back-up goalie who knows his role, has NHL starting experience, cheaper than Bob.
- A RH puck moving d-man, albeit depth d-man, who has plenty of NHL experience and has friends on the team
- A big winger who does a bit of everything
- Luke Schenn

Yeah I know Leights isn't Biron, Gervais isn't Suter, Fedotenko isn't Ryan, and Schenn isn't Weber...you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometime, you just might find you get what you need.

Imagine the effect on these boards if ESPN which is agnostic at best to the existence of professional hockey merely put up "Nash traded to L.A." The HF servers would probably explode.

TSN Story

Quote:
While many fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs are hoping the team can land a big centre, head coach Randy Carlyle believes they may have already done that.

Carlyle told The Toronto Sun on Thursday that he is interested in seeing forward James van Riemsdyk - acquired from the Philadelphia Flyers last month - try to work down the middle.

"He's a big man and we're going to try him playing in the middle for us," Carlyle told The Sun on Thursday. "It's always nice to have a 6-foot-plus centre in your top six. We feel there is an opportunity to explore him at centre.

"I have talked to him and he has asked for some video work."

Worse idea: putting Leino at center or JVR at center?

Well, we could tell L.Schenn to play exactly like Chris Pronger and grow 3 inches.
Great plan.

Toronto probably traded Schenn because last summer they gave him a VHS of Orr highlights, told him to do those things, and then got angry when he didn't.

A friend of mine posted this dumb comment on FB, it made me chuckle:

I'd go with Leino. He's pretty one dimensional IMO. JvR at least can play different roles I think.
