Wang offering money to someone? I'm more worried about our GM offering that.
If the Flyers plan on trading another talented forward, let's say to Nashville, they need a top six guy desperately to replace him. Doan and Semin are the only ones left. I could definitely see the Flyers with this type of crazy offer to allow them to do other things later.
i dont understand how people are looking at this team to think that this team is better than anyone right now, i dont care what pittsburgh, nj, boston, rangers lost, you cant just look past these teams and expect a different outcome, they still have good dominating players.
let's be real ok? is hartnell going to step up like last year? is giroux? briere, schenn, court, read, ruslan? i mean all of these guys are question marks because hartnell and giroux dominated when jagr was here and take pressure off the rookies and now you are asking them to step up when you dont know if they can handle that pressure?
these guys are not killer players like the rangers have, i hate to say it. people want to believe that these players will dominate more than the rangers or kings, they have more snipers than this team does, they are just not good enough and the defense doesnt have alot of offense either, mez is injuried, timms is old, you dont know what you are getting out of them.
problem is you want to believe what you want to believe, in reality you cant handle the truth, there are so many questions with this team i dont understand how anyone doesnt? you just dont want to believe it because it's all about favoring the players no matter how terrible they play.
So let me get it straight: the majoity of the posters here have based their opinions about next season on maturation of the team since the last year and on the fact that the core of the players has not changed. You, on the other hand, claim that you know the truth about the next season based on last year static numbers.
May be you are the one who cant handle the truth, that statistics is not 100% applicable to sports. Had it been so, we would have crowned next season SC winners in July.
Let the team play at least 1/2 a season before you doom them to oblivion.

NHL source just confirmed to me that an Eastern Conference team has offered Coyotes Captain Shane Doan a 4-year deal worth more than 30 mill

The Flyers are Confirmed NOT the alleged eastern Team who made a 4 year/ $30M offer to Shane Doan.
I am glad he didn't make any awful deals, but it wasn't for a lack of trying. I wouldn't say he played it smart when he lost out on two free agents that were interested in returning because he was busy trying to sign two players that didn't want to be here to horrible deals. His offseason is golden compared to what we feared, but he screwed up chasing Parise and Suter.
Yup, and thankfully they didn't accept his ludicrous offers. But while he was chasing those two, others slipped away.
Has there been any word on Kimmo after he had his surgery? I know Holmgren made a comment that he's doing great a few weeks ago but was wondering if Kimmo himself has said anything.
Does anyone else think homer still has a wildcard he is waiting to use?
He's been far too quiet this summer
I would be pretty surprised if we enter the season with the current roster.... not because I dislike it, but it would be very strange to see the team completely silent after the start of free agency with the dollars they have and how competitive they were last year.
There's been a lot of smoke.
I still think a trade happens for a name that we're not talking about much.
It could be as stunning as a Chris Pronger return, but who knows.

I think Holmgren has seen some of the contracts that have been handed out for marginal players this summer and he decided to stick with the status quo. Yes, he put in bids for two of the biggest free agents this summer, but that's been about it.
The trade market is ridiculous right now with the outrageous demands that Anaheim and Columbus are asking for with regards to Bobby Ryan and Rick Nash, respectively.
I think Holmgren's M.O. for this year is to sit tight, sit on the ridiculous amount of money the Flyers have available, wait for the CBA to be negotiated, and then make a splash at either the trade deadline or free agency next year.
I mentioned previously that I love how this off season has progressed. Stop gaps and roster depth has been the focus while the younger players are going to be promoted into more prominent roles. Best to build going forward.....

How much do you want to be that it's the islanders?
Wang/Snow couldn't meet Parenteau's $4m per demand.You think they are offering someone $7.5m per.
It could be as stunning as a Chris Pronger return, but who knows.
It could be entirely possible that Pronger returns. I know I'm one of the skeptics about a Pronger return, but I don't think I've ever read about Pronger having a history with concussions. So, it could be entirely possible that he makes a complete recovery and he's ready to play. It's not out of the impossible.
I still think Holmgren sits and does nothing and waits until the dust settles with the CBA and what's going to happen going forward. From what I understand, the Flyers have about 14 to 15 million in cap space available to play with. That's an awful lot of coin and depending what happens with the CBA, it's entirely possible they might have even more money to play with. They could become quite the power house team if Holmgren sticks to the plan and not make any rash judgements.....
Yeah thats gotta be the isles. No play-off team are ever going to pay 7.5 for a 50 point winger.
*sigh* IF the isles had $5m in their budget for a player, they would have packaged their 2012 4th overall+ cheap, quality prospects, for Bobby Ryan.
Ryan was reportedly available during the draft weekend.

He's younger and cheaper.
You think Wang would trade prospects who can save him money with bonuses?
I still don't see the league allowing a trade for a player that has already said he isn't going to be playing
They really don't have a choice. As long as the 35+ rule is in place, then I think team's probably have to have the right to trade the contract--just like you can trade a Russian prospects rights, even though it is never likely that they come over.
In other news / rumors, another story about Chicago possibly dealing Nick Leddy.
The thought is that the Clendening kid is close, and that Keith, Leddy, Odouya, and Clendening is a bit redundant. The author suggests that the Blackhawks need a bit more size, etc.
He would seem to fix out lack of a PMD, though I'm not sure whether we could put together a deal that would make sense.
