Yeah, they are gambling right now. They made cap space for nothing that is guaranteed. I hope it falls through and they don't get Suter, Weber or Parise.
Oh dear God no! Flyers might as well ask to move out West or swap with LA if Pitt lands Weber and a guy like Parise. It's been mentioned that Pitt wants to unload Martin's contract as well.
Pitt is trying to troll the whole league but mostly the Flyers....

Who would Pittsburgh honestly trade for Weber? There's really nothing that Pittsburgh would realistically want
I'm a bit confused by what the Pens are doing...I see no problem with a total defensive overhaul, but every defenseman they acquired tonight is Letang-esque (Dumoulin, Pouliot, Maatta, all athletic puck-movers with offensive upside). Paul Martin is still more offensive than defensive, plus they have Morrow and Despres coming up eventually...

Well look at the dev's, they didn't have big crease moving dman but they were mobile and could skate.
There is method to Pitt's madness....I think people are being too dismissive ..they are not done either. I hope though they do faceplant....Shero is no dope however

This. I am really preoccupied tonight. Shero has something up his sleeve, and frankly I am terrified to find out what it is.

I agree. He'll make it look good by the start of the season.

Uhhh not sure the Devs are the best example. Volchenkov, Fayne, and Salvador aren't exactly Rathje and Hatcher...but they're no Letang or Bouwmeester either.

They have absolutely took a step back right now for next season. I personally don't like the guy they picked at 8. Sutter is a good player, but not Staal....he's one of the best two-way players in the NHL, buried on a deep roster.

Like I said....he's positioning himself. He's not done.....Sutter is more complimentary as a 3rd line center behind Crosby and Malkin. Better for their chemistry IMO since Staal as you note was being overshadowed and under appreciated. I just think people are being too dismissive. Again..Shero is no dope.

They are hoping to spend all that space on Suter or Parise/semin

I'd rather have Staal any day of the week. Thats why they tried to give him 60 mil..... Crosby is one hit away from retirement. Staal might have been the best 2nd line centerman in the league, and was CLEARLY the best 3....
UFA...could really be a risky proposition. I'm not shaking if they get Parise, who is a very good player and will make their offense better (would replace staal), but their 12 defense is down right now.
How far up do the Flyers have to move up to get Dalton Thrower or Matt Finn?
They have 45th pick and would probably have to move up 10 picks i am guessing.
Finn and bystrom will most likely be gone by our pick. Thrower might be here because it seems alot of people are afraid throwers offensive potenial wont move on to he pros (and thats a huge factor for him). His defensive play is questionable. Go for pokka if he is there, bystrom or finn if they fall, zharkov, or even hyka

It may turn out bad for them
Can't see Semin, but I wouldn't count out the chance of PIT landing BOTH Parise and Suter. And what if they mobilize to acquire Yandle on top of that? Not sure they have the pieces for it...but Shero has money, he's like a kid in a candy store.
Flyers may not want to wait around for the Pens to start dictating available players.
