I like Mikkelson. Good signing for us. Any idea what the cap hit is?

Glad to have Mik back. I'm sure the contract will be plenty affordable.

Assuming Lee will be the #4 Dman?

Something like?:

Hedman / ?
Brewer / Lee
Aulie / Mik

Or am I missing something?

MAB in there somewhere too.

This is ok. Although he did seem to be a bit scrambly the last month or so.

True, #7 PP specialist. After his injury, I'd be hesitant to start off the season with him getting significant ice time though.

As a bottom pairing guy, yeah. For most of the season he was very steady in that roll.

What PC said. On the bottom pair he's pretty decent.

Unfortunately that describes most of our d-corp. I'm hoping Lee can take that next step this season.

Not sure what Lee has done to be penciled in as a top 4 defender on this team. I'm fine with Mikkelson as a 7th man and maybe he'll earn a regular spot out of camp, but I really don't want to see Bergeron back in anything more than a limited role.

Nothing, except be awful after his first week here.

Mik and MAB as 6/7 are fine to me, i'm afraid Lee will end up getting top four time mainly because of a lack of options, which sucks. I'd rather have Gudas in his spot and send Lee to Syracuse.

Well, ideally Lee wouldn't be in our top4. I think he would be better suited on the bottom pairing with Mik. We aren't exactly overflowing with guys who are better than Lee right now though. Realistically speaking, what do you think our defensive pairings will look like to start next season?

Ideally, they would look something like:
Hedman / ** Dman from UFA or trade
Brewer / ** Dman from UFA or trade
Mikkelson / Lee
Aulie or MAB

We might only be able to get 1 legit top 4 dman this summer. If that happens we'll have to rotate Mikkelson/Lee/Aulie between the #4 spot and the third pairing (which is acceptable).

EDIT: I think one of Aulie/Lee/Mik will wind up playing good enough if Brewer is on the 2nd pairing with them. If it doesn't work out we can always go for a dman at the trade deadline.

Lee showed the most offensive potential of any D since he was acquired. He looked better at the end of the season when he learned to system. He's got good size and is RH so would work good with Brewer, plus we would only need to get 1 top D so won't have to spend too much or trade too much.

I don't think anybody is hoping that Lee ends up in the top 4. Unfortunately, I have an awful feeling that it's going to happen regardless of our feelings. We may get one top 4 guy, I really doubt we get two, which is what we need.

If that is indeed the case, Lee is the best option of our guys that were here last year. I'd love for Gudas or Barberio to come up and knock the coaching staff for a loop. Probably not this season.

I think Gudas can potentially, but banking on that is also a bad idea.

I was thinking the same, but what would our contract situation look like? I would think somebody would have to be sent down, and I'm pretty sure any of them could be claimed off waivers right? (I honestly don't know, jw)

Aulie to Syracuse would probably make the most sense but he'd have to clear waivers, right?

Aulie would have to clear waivers, so he's pretty much a sure bet to stick with the Lightning.

Yeah, I figured so. As would the rest of our defensemen I think.

Maybe MAB gets packaged in a trade for a top 4 PMD who can QB a PP? *acronyms FTW!!*

Yeah everyone would have to clear waivers. The only way Aulie could survive re-entry waivers is if he signs a two way deal and his AHL cash is $105,000 or less which I think is very unlikely of happening.

FYI, the contract for Mikkelson, which is a one-year, one-way deal, is for $600,000 #tblightning

Remember how good he was when he came to us? I hope he can keep it up and take the next step.

Funny, he earns less than in the years before (CapGeek). But he probably took the pay cut because it's a one-way deal.
