James Neal had that potential as well. Look what he got dealt for. He had a down season as well.
Neal scored 40 goals and had 80 points this season. It cost them Goligoski to get him AND Niskanen. Goligoski is a 45 point NHL defender who is about the same level of defense as DZ and is older by 5 years.
If we're trading for Ryan and DZ is on the table for him, that is all that should be offered. Maybe a 1st if they throw in a 2nd if they want a little more value.
keyword potential. Ryan did it year in and year out. Defintion of a goal scorer, so big price
It's the rest of the quote that I find terrifying, since it's complete and utter ********.
Funny, Glen, since not being in the top tier of the league never stopped you from being the most aggressive in free agency before, and it's always worked out brilliantly for you, hasn't it?
So what, buffoon? If the players in free agency aren't worth shelling out money for, or aren't good fits for you, then what's wrong with giving up assets if the players you're getting back in a trade make your team better? Just be judicious for once.
God. We're going to bring out the Brinks truck we transported Richards' money in, and rent some Hertz trucks too, aren't we? If Parise still won't come, I shudder to think who he's going to throw money at. I love Parise and would have no problem circumventing the **** out of the cap for him, but I'd really uncomfortable going any higher than a $7m cap hit for him.
[QUOTE=mrjimmyg89;51416397]If we're trading MDZ for Ryan, it should be the only part of the trade. Del Zotto is worth more than Ryan is IMO. He's a puck mover. In fact, they should have to throw in something in return. Goligoski got Neal and Niskanen, Del Zotto is better than Goligoski.
If they want Del Zotto, they have to add to the package, not us.[/QUOTE
First of all, I doubt Anaheim would want Del Zotto when they already have Fowler.
Second of all, if they did want Del Zotto, there's no way in hell they're trading Ryan + for him.
You have to remember that Neal was coming off a lousy year when Dallas move him + for Goligoski.
What's your point? If the bankrupt NJD could do it, MSG could, too. Money is no object here, and in terms of cap concerns, Kovalchuk is one of the best values in the league.

Considering the Rangers are the preferred destination for virtually all Russian players, yeah, I'm pretty confident about that.
Hell, he preferred going to LA over NJ, anyway, but the Kings wouldn't pony up the money. As long as the Rangers would have paid (and if there is a team in the NHL for whom money is not an issue, it's NYR), they'd easily have been the front runners for Kovalchuk.
year 1- 12 mill
year 2- 10 mill
year 3- 10 mill
year 4- 10 mill
year 5- 10 mill
year 6- 9 mill
year 7- 9 mill
year 8- 7 mill
year 9- 6 mill
year 10- 4 mill
year 11-2 mill
year 12- 1 mill
What an absolutely horrendous deal. A 12 year deal for someone that plays the way he does, we'd be lucky if he was still productive after year 5 and he'd still be making 9 mill. Usually you do long term deals to lower the cap hit.
Parise would be a huge mistake for this team. I can't put it any other way.

i 100% agree he's a horrible long-term investment due to the beatings he takes in front of the net but that's the only way he'll come here imo because he's a sure fire lock to get a deal for 10+ years in the free agent market

Awesome, because I don't want him to begin with. Parise doesn't solve this teams biggest needs, even though he's a phenomenal hockey player.

I don't get it, since kovalchuk went to new jersey he hasn't been elite but people talk about him like he is. He was elite in Atlanta, since coming to jersey he has not been elite. People act like parise is some sort of scrub. Despite the cap hit, every other team would love to have him including the Rangers.

6th in Goals and 5th in Points isn't elite? What is your definition of elite?

A great goal scorer who does everything the Rangers do and would help the PP doesn't fit the needs? I understand people might not want to pay what it would take, but he absolutely fits this teams needs

No, this team needs a pure sniper.
We don't need a better version of Ryan Callahan at 4 mill extra cost. We have a team full of Ryan Callahans. We don't have a team full of Bobby Ryans, Rick Nashs, or Marian Gaboriks.
We don't need to pay someone 7.5 mill to get garbage goals when we don't throw the puck at the net to allow for garbage goals.
When Parise can take the puck coast to coast, walk in the zone, enter the top of the circle and snipe top corner talk to me. And not just once, but consistently.
Kovalchuk is actually quite a bargain at his 6.67M cap hit. We would be lucky to have him.
Sure but it is ludicrously long, hope he stays healthy and continues to contribute for most of it. He should but I don't like contracts like his or Richards.

He's also a terrible playmaker.
Why more people do not understand this is BEYOND me.
