I said he's elite overall but how can anyone deny he hasn't been as great for nj as he was in atl?

Okay sure, that's something I'll agree with. He put up stupid numbers in atlanta. you were trying to argue he wasn't elite which is just well, dumb.

I think we all would take Kovalchuk on this team. A top 6 looking like this would be great.

Kreider-Richards-Gaborik
Kovalchuk-Stepan-Callahan

I doubt anyone would complain if that was our top 6 but who cares, he isn't here so why debate about it? He was a 50 goal scorer in Atlanta and just because his numbers slipped doesn't mean he isn't as dangerous as he was. He is also playing 2 way hockey and not just looking to score goals every shift which means his production will fall a bit.

He's not, but I like I said, what he did in atl wasn't elite, that was another level above that.

I said since being in jersey. I said many times he was elite in atl and overall he is, but he's declined since going to jersey again so far.

His whole game changed in Jersey, he is playing 2 way hockey and he isn't just sniping every chance he gets. Just like Ovechkin.

Uhh he has scored 82 less goals in 57 less games than Kovalchuk, also he doesn't take over a game like Kovalchuk or Jagr could.

numbers decline? yes. He's playing with a defensive conscious now. But ability wise? He's still the same exact player he was in atl, just as dangerous.

In all seriousness ... anyone who bashes Gabby needs their head examined ... not only has he put up great #'s being here, but has bought into the defense system Torts put in place AND IMHO is the definition of a warrior ... played in the post season with a completely shot shoulder but continued to work hard, and give it his all. I can honestly say if it's one player that woke me up ... it's him ... I have so much respect for Gabby.

And I can agree his game changed in nj, but overall in nj his numbers have not been elite. I'm sure in the end they will be because I've said time and time again overall he has been elite in his career

Rangers have money and in the future if we had to let guys like anisimov, dubi, or others go so be it. They aren't worth missing out on an impact player whether it be Nash Ryan parise etc

Because that 1 mil can be a big difference. Look at Prust, Sather offered him 1.8 and he wants 2.2. That's a 400 thousand dollar difference so a 1 mil difference is huge.

Prust isn't worth losing out on a Nash Ryan or parise bc of a cap hit

(Obviously hoping) Chris Kreider. He has serious, serious potential.

His game changed so his numbers dropped, he is playing more defensive hockey which means he isn't getting the chances like he did on Atlanta and Atlanta had no other good players, NJ has other guys who can play and give Kovalchuk a break. It's obvious that if a sniper plays defensive hockey, his numbers will drop, just like Ovechkin. He isn't scoring 50 goals any more, he is more in the 30-35 range because he switched his game up.
