I think we go hard after Schultz. Have Gardiner, Schultz, and Rielly as our puck movers, with Phaneuf, Schenn, and Blacker to compliment, not half-@$$ bad.

Excellent. Let's hope we can get Frk, Di Giuseppe, or Samuelsson at 35!

Or, Burke and co. picked who they believed was the BPA at #5.

No Problem.

For sure, he has the biggest potential among the defensemen so if he pans out for us, it would be amazing.

Over Grigorenko or Forsberg, how does that work again? Kadri and Colborne, what kind of prospect depth at forward is that? Not a great day. An historically nowhere franchise without much of a clue and little imagination treading water like a duck.

This draft was for sure the year of the defence man and I think it showed the lack of high end potential forward talent besides a couple of players. Burke made the right choice imo by picking BPA and getting Rielly who is one of the few defence men in this draft who have top 2 potential. If we get our own mini Kris Letang with this pick then I'm happy.

Besides Yakupov, Galchenyuk and maybe Forsberg, I doubt Burke had much interest in the other forwards in the draft.

When does round 2 of the draft start and which channels if any are showing it?

5 other teams didn't take Forsberg or Grigorenko. I'd like to think that Burke and his staff, and the teams picking 6-10 know a LITTLE more than us.

Exactly. I'd be a little more upset about the pick had Foppa and Grigs gone within a few picks after the Leafs but they fell by a lot

Well we have had a history of not drafting a russian, and there must have been a reason why Forsberg fell after the top10. I`d think the player we were interested in Galchenyuk which was arguably picked up by the Habadians.

So what did we do? We took the player with the best potential.

Go read the Calgary thread and feel better about yourself.

Must say, like most I was hoping for grigo and forsberg, but am not upset at all by this.
Solid depth continues to buil on the blueline, with a guy who could have the highest ceiling of all leafs dmen if all goes perfect.

Tell that to the next 5 gms who skipped Forsberg and Grigs.

Shero, Yzerman, Murray, Fletcher and Chevaldayoff all skipped them.

This could be potentially our d-pairings 3 seasons from now:

Phaneuf-Reilly
Gardiner-Shultz
Schenn-Gunnarsson

I'm starting to like the pick more and more. Love the prospect of having one of Phaneuf, Gardiner and Rielly on every defense pairing.

Reilly is a 1st line defenceman. Hes the real deal. Just Burke better get that center. Lu will still be a Leaf.

As a sens fan, don't know much about Reilly. But those highlights show a lot of talent. I think this kid will work out for you.

When I saw that Galchenyuk was already taken I had a feeling that the Leafs were going to select Rielly and wow Pierre McGuire was right that Burke should have picked him.
