Would have prefered a Forsberg or Grig slightly over him but Reilly is amazing offensively, competing, great character, and has the potential to be the best defender if he hits his ceiling.

And With the way how things are heading in the draft, u would think were not the only team that's gonna kick the tires on Forsberg or Grig if they pan out like Couturier.

Looking at our defensive situation he'll need a couple years just for the backlog to clear.

Still if we were going to pick D this was the guy I wanted. Huge ceiling and a great skillset. I would have liked a forward especially Grigorenko, but what can you do. Have to believe in this guy.

Burke told David Alter of the FAN 590 that they had Rielly at #1 on their list... ahead of Yakupov, Galchenyuk and Murray. He also went on to say that "I'm not just saying that either".

He's full of it, IMO.

But I wouldn't be surprised if he made in very interesting in the fall at camp.

for real, he went that far? Reilly is definitely intriguing then and has crazy high potential if not for injuries this year.

They always say they took the BPA.

Meaningless.

Reminds me of when St. Louis was overstocking the blueline with Johnson, Pietrangelo and Rundblad and ended up trading 2 of them away to address other needs.

Personally, I think this is a great pick as the kid has amazing potential. We now have all kinds of d-men and, if we can sign Schultz (or does this pick mean they don't think they are getting him?) we will be even better going forward. With the plethora of d-men they can always package one or two in a deal for a goalie or a center.

BPA.

I love this pick. I think he could be very important for us moving forward. If he is as good as he seems, it may make one of him, Gardiner or Schenn that much easier to move to fill a need.

Love his work ethic, skating, and skill.

Still wondering where Grigs goes, and if Burke can move up for him or Wilson.

Love the pick, and obviously teams 6-10 also felt the Ds are better picks than Forsberg or Grigorenko, and there is also a chance we could still grab one of them the way this is going.....

Well maybe Reilly can do some Karlsson/Doughty/Letang type things, which would make him a pretty huge deal.

I don't think you understood what I said. He said he was #1 on their list, going INTO the draft. As in, if the Leafs had the #1 pick, Burke said the Leafs would have taken Rielly with it.

Almost an irresponsible thing to say, as Leaf fans across the world will now hail him as the next Bobby Orr.

Wasn't happy at first, but looking into it more seems like a great pick. This kid has some skills, and as TSN said he lit up the fitness testing.

I've never seen the kid play so who knows, could be. What's interesting is that Burke left Grigorenko, Faksa, and Forsberg on the table for this guy. That's a shocker IMO.

Those two are both soft.......that's why Canucks don't have what it takes to win the cup. Run over by Boston and run over by the Kings......you can't deny that!!!

This I was furious at first. But having a letang like player on the leafs. Is great.
