Exactly. Any team looking for a solid PMD that misses out on the top UFA guys would have been interested. Murray could easily have gotten the same value for Lubo a week or a month from now.

We weren't above floor even with Lubo.

PRetty much this. Its a 2013 pick, so its not like hes getting value this weekend. It really wouldnt surprise me if NYI flips him for a better deal at the draft.

Ok good. Samueli will be forced to spend some money then.

They can take a shot at Suter now for sure.

With Bonino and Selanne to sign, the Ducks are now 15M below the cap floor at 39.26M

Murray has put himself in a position where he now HAS to do something.

I don't think this is as bad as some of you are making it out to be.

Nah... Well just trade for Tim Thomas... His cap hit will count, but we don't have to pay him... Great deal from Samuelis POV

As 'bad' as he was, he was still the best producing defenseman on the team and had the best +/- except for Brookbank. Still a top 4 caliber defenseman, with the potential to bounce back only for $3 mil. The cap hit is of little importance of this franchise, especially only for one year. Beauchemin is what he is, good, but isn't a real #1 or #2. At least Lubo had that upside in a good year. Now all we can do is hope for Fowler to become one as soon as next year, or somehow end up signing a good FA. If Murray wanted to trade Lubo, he should have done so after he had been able to sign one of the top FA's. Trading him wouldn't have been a problem a week or a month from now, heck, we didn't even trade him for a pick this year.
Nobody on this team is. Not even Visnovsky. If he can sign or trade for one (using freed up cap space from this deal) it's a great move.

Big if...but I don't know what else they would do with the cap room.

So according to Murray, Lubo had same value as Cogliano. How is this mother****er still employed?

These trades aren't made in a vacuum. It's chess, not checkers. I think this was a good move, based upon age and Lubo's salary hit. Stay patient and let's see how it plays out.

really dude? It's all situational. Anyone can say what they want but Viz isn't much of a valuable asset. To be honest I'm happy Murray made this trade.

Big cap hit. Big decline. One year left on his contract. Old. That's not a crazy assessment for Lubo.

If it's not a trade, then we have got to be gearing up for Wideman, Suter, or Garrison, right?

We have ONE reliable PMD right now, Bob better have something cooking

One reliable PMD and an overall defense of:

Fowler
Beauchemin (who may or may not be ok after shoulder surgery)
Lydman
Sbisa
Vatanen
Guenin

There is no way Murray doesn't make an addition to the top 4 before the season begins.

I guess this is pretty unlikely, just throwing the idea out there. But there is a possibility this could mean there is a deal in place with Schultz. But even without a deal in place, Murray could use the trade to convince Shultz he'd be the #1 guy on out PP if he sign here.

Both thoughts crossed my mind, then I shook my head and went back to hoping for a lockout so the season will be over more quickly.

I'm sure there's a plan, I just fear the consequences of it's failure.
