They're discussing Forsberg next on NHL live. Watch it on nhl.com

Given the scarcity of high end UFAs this year I can see him getting 5 years at $6-6.5 mil no problem from someone. 5-7 years at $7 mil as an opening negotiating position isn't unreasonable given the very limited supply of top UFAs this offseason IMO.

Thanks for that. Semin and Gandler must be on poppers. I'm still laughing.

Did Grigorenko really get 85 points in 59 games?

If by "like" you mean similar in style, yes. Nowhere near his caliber.

@Semin thing...what that really means is Gandler wants that contract. I don't get the impression Semin's relationship with his agent is all that close.

Yes. Easy to do in the QMJHL.

Stereotype much? He was 8th in QMJHL scoring with 85 points, as a 17 year old in his first season in North America. The 8th ranked scorer in the OHL had 86 points and the 8th ranked scorer in the WHL had 105 points. So...

Whatever. I overreacted to the shock at the point total. Scoring is generally higher in the QMJHL and the style of the league is particularly conducive to players like Grigorenko putting up tons of points. I also said tonight that I think he's possibly the best player in the draft.

It's good. There are a lot of assclowns in the Quebec hockey media, but Lavoie is a legitimate source for NHL news.

So, McPhee told him that directly...hoping to drive the price down and ultimately re-sign Semin to a more reasonable deal? I can't see why else he would be so willing to share.

My first instinct after hearing a good joke is to share it.

I though Forsberg still had a year left on his Swedish contract and therefore unlikely to play in NA.

P Bergeron is probably much better. PB is a top 2C who can fill in at 1C and win you playoff games.

Eakin has a great motor and attitude...I see him as a very good 3rd line player either at C or at wing. Heart and soul guy...but not in Bergeron's class.

I'm sure there's an NHL out-clause in the contract. But it's unlikely that he's NHL-ready anyway.

You never know, though.

I believe bringing Ribeiro to town will help Backstrom a ton. He's been given way too much to do on O and D ever since (and including) the Habs fail. With Ribs contributing on O and the PP, Backstrom can pick his spots. I expect he'll really elevate his game and get to 100 pts again.

Does anyone know how Ribs has done in the playoffs recently?

I thought Fors said he wanted to stay for one more year?

He did, but it's entirely possible he comes over if asked.

I'm not saying it's likely, but this isn't a KHL situation where he'd have to buy out his contract or something.

I think he said he planned on it. It didn't sound like he really considered himself ready yet. That doesn't mean he wouldn't be open to coming, but, yeah, he's probably not ready.
