I have no issues believing Ribeiro is a locker room problem. It would explain how they were able to acquire him relatively cheaply.

That said, the right team should be able to deal with that. The Kings last year more or less proved that you can succeed by taking advantage of guys who are out of favor elsewhere due to character issues (Richards, Carter) or worth ethic issues (Penner, though it took some time for him to fit).

Now, I don't think I trust to Caps to have the right support structure in place to actually make it work, but that's another issue. Either way it's a one year commitment, no huge risk.

Bad apple may be overrated. We have tried to only retain good guys etc, and where has it gotten us. Nice guys finish last.

Maybe we need someone not afraid to say FU in the locker room.

I have no concerns esp. after the bad boys in Philly now drinking out of the cup. Changes in scenery help players "wake" up - ass Ribs may get tired of getting traded.

One of the benefits of a roster trade, everyone realizes its time to shape up, guys traded and not alike.

Yeah Ribeiro was a real problem in the Dallas locker room.....

Alex Goligoski : “@gollygoose33: Sad to see @ribz63 go... Great guy and player!!! Best of luck in wash!”

Brendan Morrow (Dallas CAPTAIN) : “@Minimo1zero: Goal scoring for @ovi8 just got easier with @ribz63 passing the puck. Enjoy the tap ins.... I did!”

No to mention countless others from arena announcers, team photographers and fans telling him how they'll miss him......and someone also asked Dave Tipett about Ribeiro and he had nothing but praise for him......so I'm not worried about the diving, locker room issues, etc.....I'm just glad the Caps got him.

From everything I've heard (which granted, I heard from the media and on here, so I've taken it with a grain of salt), Ribeiro really cleaned up his act the past year - two years. IMO, this deal will work nicely. It gives MJ a year down at 3C and we don't have to worry about rushing him to 2C. (I think Laich is best suited as a 2LW and not 3C) I think in two years, he'll be ready for the 2C spot. And if Ribeiro kills it here, we can go for re-signing him and keep MJ at 3C.

Also, I have no idea what GMGM is planning in his fortress, but one name I think he may go hard after that I haven't seen talked about a bunch on this board is Dustin Penner.

Agreed.....we're getting the 31 yr old Ribeiro not the 23 yr old........as for Penner, i really hope GMGM isn't going after him....we already have someone making 3+ who is considered " a playoff performer".

Oh don't get me wrong, I agree with you about Penner; it was just complete speculation based on GMGM's MO over the past two years. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Semin walks and GMGM says Penner is brought in as the new top 6 forward.

Cause Backstrom has no buisness feeding Ovi passes.

A guy who was actually very good in the playoffs given the role he was put into?

Yeah, less of that, more regular season worldbeaters please.

Only Ovi can get Ovi to score 50 again (unless of course he spends the season with Brooks Laich as his center-highly unlikely now).

Slow down man. Ribeiro is no Dainus Zubrus.

What I'm getting at is for Ovi to score 50 again, he needs to make sure to pull his head out of his ass before camp.

Can someone please explain to me why all the sudden we got a 2nd line center, it is now an awful move?

I am seriously blown at these posts

You're expecting less from this group? We find things to be upset about.

Set the bar low and when he exceeds it it's all gravy. We as a fan base are conditioned to think like this.

The easiest way for Ovi to score 50 again would be to play run-n-gun hockey. The most logical way to get him to score 50 is to play a more balanced style. While I respect their commitment to the defensive end these past two years they need to be more willing to break out and take chances. If they learn how to pick their spots then we'll get the best of bost worlds.

However as it stands with the defensive-grind it out style of play I would be surprised to see him get 50. Heck right now I'm surprised he got 38 with the system last year.

Backstrom is 10 times the player Riberio is.

If we get an offensive minded coach I can see Ovi getting 50 again. He came close to 40 playing the most defensive system in the league.

Unless the PP is fixed there is no way Ovi scores 50.
