This got me thinking, has Joe ever dealt a roster player to a team in the West? Or even a prospect? I can't remember any.

We traded a future consideration to Minny for Nystrom, but I don't think he's ever dealt a player to a Conference rival.

Well.
What a relief.

Gotta admit, Joe has a vision. Even if it seems strangely devoid of skilled talented players.

Joe must have something up his sleeve(or so I hope). All that talk about needing 2 more top 6 forwards, some would say we need 3 now? Haven't seen much of Eakin and we still have free agency coming up, but I think it's completely understandable to be a little worried.

If this is all he'll do, I'd be okay with another GM starting the season.

He has to.
This doesn't go along whatsoever with what they've been talking about all off-season.
They have been making it sound like they are ready to spend and compete, but this trade makes the Stars worse off for at least a season; likely more.
Unless of course they've gone rebuild mode...

I think Gaglardi and Joe are on too much of the same page for GMJN to get fired in the next 2 seasons. I think they understand this is a retooling period of sorts and if Gaglardi didn't can GMJN to start his tenure as owner, Joe will get 2 seasons of freedom, without much threat of losing his job. Gaglardi won't approve a deal he doesn't like it seems and is pretty hands on about the direction he wants the team to go in.

And I mean what can Joe really do? Trade off the vets for late 1stish round picks that will be ready in 3 years? He doesn't have much maneuverability, both in terms of prospects we can afford to lose and value of the vets we can sell off. None of our vets are going to bring in the real blue-chippers that are close to NHL ready that would turn this thing around quicker.

I've seen Eakin play since he was in junior and have always been impressed by his play, always the hardest working player and always making stand out plays. I may be in the minority here, but I think he will be a great player for the Stars. He may not put up as many points as Ribeiro, but I think he will be a more reliable, well-rounded player than Ribeiro.

Joe... tell me why?

You want to split the unsuccessful core thats great but please send Robidas, Morrow, Ott and last one Ribeiro away - in this order.

But if you trade our #2 Center get some counter value and not any #4 & #5 prospects from other teams.

As you can see I'm really sad at the moment before the draft I was euphoric to achieve the Playoffs this year, but with this move we will have five years without Playoffs.

Regarding ReaallMunson18's post he is completely right GMJN doesn't fill the gap's he creates more.

Hopefully we sign/trade for a real star who improves the Dallas Stars and doesn't hurt them...

Mike Ribeiro, I wish you all the best in Washinghton you were a real Dallas Star and you have worn your jersey with proud.
For me you were our Datysuk in Dallas, you made the unexpected tricky moves with your stick. In one word you were "entertainment" on the ice.

He's only traded with Colorado and San Jose since getting here. Both were just for picks.

I just keep coming back to the fact that there has to be something going on we don't know about. GMJN obviously had something against Ribs and was willing to just dump him, and he could afford to do that now unlike at the TD.

We can only hope Morrow and Robidas have a similar leash.

I am great with the trade last night. Heika tweeted that Joe tried to move up to get another pick in the first round. I am glad Joe is trying to do something. If he would have been able to get another pick in the first by packaging the second round picks that would have been great.

Tom seems to be involved in everything that is going on and it appears he is giving his approval or it would not have gotten done.

It was reported Thursday that Dallas was receiving calls on Mike. So I can only assume Joe got the best offer out there.

I would rather Joe be trying than playing it safe for another year and having the same result as the past four.

Thinking about it, if that was the best offer (not sure I believe that, I'm sure someone in the West beat it), then at least we got something pretty solid. I highly doubt we were planning on re-signing him, either.

I'm still so torn over this.

count me squarely in the minority here as well. This IS a good deal for the stars. Caps bought 1 year of Ribeiro. We got another pick in the 2nd, a real good prospect, and cleared 4 million. I really dont think anyone was going to give a first for Ribeiro.

I think we got as much as we could get for Ribeiro. On any other team he's a second line center, we only had 1yr left of him and compared to others on our roster we were overpaying him. He constantly took too long of shifts and basically took clock away from Benn, especially on the power play. As long as we find a way to match or upgrade his production on July 1st we're going to come out ahead here.

There is NO WAY I believe Joe doesn't have a plan or an end game here. Gaglardi has obviously given him some money to work with.

I expect the Stars to go hard after Olli Jokinen now.

I'm hoping this means we're throwing a ton of money at Parise/Suter. I know, 8+M is a mistake, but that's the only way we'll even have a chance.

We've got 29M in space, why not use it? 10M each for both Parise and Suter.

Why don't we just toss 9M at Benn, too?

Ugh, don't know what to think, one minute I like it, the next I hate it. Better go hard in free agency now.

Just how much is Parise worth? And how much is he worth to us? I don't think these two numbers are the same.
