Keep 6 or 7.

For sure. these 5. Dubnyk, CVV, Petry, Gagner, Tremblay,

Plante and possible Peckham.

If they can find trade partners for the rest, (i think only Plante/Peckham and Omark have value) that would be ideal.

I would keep Tremblay around at his price tag. He put up over 30 pts in his first pro season. I dont expect him to be an NHLer, but i think hes the kind of guy you want in your system to make the farm successful.

I would qualify Tremblay, he could be a darkhorse player. Give him another year in the A and see where that goes.

Obvious non qualifiers are obvious (Barker, Kytnar)
Everybody else is worth it IMO.

Other than Barker and Kyntar, they should qualify everyone, even if only to use some as trade chips.

Since with 2 weeks before free agency it doesn't sound like any of the UFAs are coming back (Smyth, Petrell, Hordichuk) and there are deals that need to be made to improve the roster, I'm not too worried about the 50 contract limit yet.

I'm thinking it's time to cut ties with Peckham,, ufortunately. I like him allot too, but I don't think he's progressed enough to warrant a qualifier.

I pretty much agree with everyone else regarding Barker, Kytnar, Omark etc.

Thoughts?
Cam Barker $2,250,000: I doubt they qualify Cam, unless they take a page out of Gillis' book and file for cut-down arbitration?
Taylor Chorney $761,250: I believe they will qualify Taylor, simply for the purpose of having an experienced guy on the farm
Devan Dubnyk $840,000: Definitely will qualify, and I think both sides will come to terms on a multi-year deal
Sam Gagner $2,275,000: Definitely will qualify, and I think another 2 year deal is in the cards
Milan Kytnar $619,666: Won't qualify, he's done playing in North America
Linus Omark $918,750: Will qualify, I don't think he plays with the Oilers organization again, but he'll be qualified/signed and traded
Theo Peckham $1,075,000: He'll be qualified, but remains to be seen if he's with the organization next year
Jeff Petry $1,050,000: Definitely qualified, and hopefully a multi-year extension
Alex Plante $1,075,000: Will be qualified, and likely play in the A
Hunter Tremblay $621,500: Will be qualified
Chris Vandevelde $892,500: Will be qualified

You're willing to give Peckham away? I think you have to qualify him, if for no other reason than to try to trade him away this off-season.

Yes
Jeff Petry $1,050,000
Chris Vandevelde $892,500
Devan Dubnyk $840,000
Sam Gagner $2,275,000
Linus Omark $918,750

No
Cam Barker $2,250,000
Milan Kytnar $619,666

Maybe
Hunter Tremblay $621,500

Here's the problem I'm having. Assuming the Oilers pick up one top 4 defenceman, the NHL blueline looks like this

Smid Petry
Schultz New Guy
Whitney Sutton
Potter

And the OKC blueline looks like this

Marincin Teubert
Davidson Fedun
???? ????

Marincin, Fedun and Davidson will be rookie pros and I think the organization will want a veteran AHLer (30+) player to be there guiding them through the steps of becoming a professional defenseman. That leaves Peckham, Plante and Chorney competing for one spot.

Personally, I sign Plante and try to trade Chorney and Peckham at the draft. If I can't I let them walk.

Hopefully the 2012-2013 blueline looks like this.

Smid Petry
Whitney Carle
Schultz Schultz
Sutton

AHL Vet Fedun
Marincin Plante
Davidson Teubert
AHL Vet

Then in 13/14 the NHL blueline can be

Smid Petry
Carle J. Schultz
N. Schultz Klefbom
Cheap Vet

I felt like we traded Greene too soon. I would feel the same way about Peckham. Hopefully this off season he gets into better shape and turns his career around.

I agree and given what Nelson says about the kid I just can't see them letting him go.

Here's the big question, who is waiver eligible? I hate the waiver system, Peckham needed to be in OKC last year and to start this year, but we can't without risking losing him. Now he'll just sit in the PB, unless of course he has a turn around summer like Matt Greene did when we dealt him.

I wonder if Omark holds any value at all around the league.

I believe he does not.

Most teams have prospects like Omark.

A team like Calgary or the Islanders might take stabs at signing him for depth, but I doubt they'd give up anything for him, as he doesn't really bring anything special, and 4/5 chance he's back in the KHL next season.

RFA's this year (including qualifying offer amount):
Cam Barker $2,250,000---not qualified
Taylor Chorney $761,250--according to capgeek UFA
Devan Dubnyk $840,000--qualified
Sam Gagner $2,275,000--qualified
Milan Kytnar $619,666---n/q
Linus Omark $918,750--traded or n/q
Theo Peckham $1,075,000--qualified
Jeff Petry $1,050,000--qualified
Alex Plante $1,075,000--not qualified
Hunter Tremblay $621,500--qualified
Chris Vandevelde $892,500--qualified

--------------------------

Oilers need to keep one eye on their 50 contract limit and I see a few players who have no future in Edmonton, such and Plante or Omark, either being traded for picks or not qualified

I doubt it, maybe you get a late round pick or a swap of a prospect but that's about it. Zuccarello seemed like a similar player and he jumped ship to the SEL or KHL before NHL free agency.

Time to sever ties with Omark.

One of the worst drafts in terms of overall depth in quite a few years and we couldn't even get a measly 5th or 6th rounder for him.

If all of these QOs are due tomorrow, should we not have heard that the offers have been made by now? I'm having trouble finding evidence that we've qualified anybody...

They usually don't get made or announced until about noon the day of.

If you're on twitter, just make sure you're following all the local beat guys (even millhouse ) and you'll know at about noon tomorrow who has and has not been qualified

I think we should qualify Omark.

I'd rather have him come to training camp and try to earn a job in Edmonton than anywhere else in the NHL. If, in fact, he doesn't make the team and decides he doesn't want to play in Oklahoma, his contract won't count against the 50 (ex. Kytnar).

Ignoring his attitude, he's still a very talented forward who could potentially turn it around on a team that gives him the opportunity.

Barker, Chorney and Kytnar are the only no-brainers to walk away from. Plante is still a leader in OKC and developing his game.
