What about revisiting trying to trade for one of the Jets dmen?

Byfuglien - could be had, asking price probably too steep
Entsrom - could be had IMO
Bogosian - not attainable
Hainsey - offensive production seems to have decreased, is a good puck mover though, I wouldn't be too interested in him
Clitsome - PPG is good at NHL level, likely not an upgrade on what Oilers have. The fact Columbus didn't want him makes me think he might turn out good though.

I think joe was just proving a point that people will be unhappy with Wideman no matter what because he is not the strongest defensively.

I'm not against Wideman but I'm quite leery of giving any mediocre UFA a long term (3+ year) deal.

I know he has a few minutes less of TOI/game than most of these guys and he's not the best passer but he still had less giveaways than: Seabrook, McDonagh, Bieksa, Subban, Yandle
He looked very solid last year and if he had a partner that was better than him, I think he would shine even more. As it is, he is always carrying his partner from Gilbert to Petry.

I'm a big no to Carle. He isn't a fix to this teams defense he would just be another band-aid. Also if he wants to be closer to Alaska Vancouver has more direct flights than edmonton. Not sure either but I assume that Calgary would as well.

Disagree with the first line.. Smid is a top pairing Dman. He just needs someone who is atleast as good as him on the pairing.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here. I'm simply saying that he is a viable top 4 dman on a contending team.
