Extremely. I don't see it happening. How can you trade the guy after re-signing him prior to UFA. For a team with such problems attracting UFAs, you absolutely cannot till at very least, the trade deadline of next year.

I just don't see it unless we're a bottom feeder again by the trade deadline.

It would be stupid.

Players take notice of those types of things.

We don't want to make it any harder to sign players than it already is for us.

Hey, sign with us and we will trade you before you even play a game on your new contract!

Sharks signed Setoguchi and dealt him literally a week later.
Flyers traded Carter and Richards.

It happens.

Gagner + 32nd for a high-ish pick so that we can grab Teravainen or Grigorenko.

It's different when the players signed their contracts as RFAs. They would've had to sign a contract with their new team anyway. Hemsky had the option of picking a new team but he chose to stay here instead.

Although I do think the Richards and Carter trades were slimy from Philidelphia since they were long term contracts. We'll see if Philidelphia has trouble signing players to longterm contracts without no trade clauses from now on.

Great trade for the Hurricanes. I don't care who the Pens take at #8, Staal is the best player in the deal.

The return for a UFA to be was huge. Pittsburgh definitely maximized Staal's value.

Sutter's going to be a premier checking centre. Gets Pittsburgh money as well.

For one, they'd have to wait until next offseason to do it.

No ones saying they couldn't, but a whole season is a long wait.

But I don't think they are in a win now mode.. That is a massive trade, so I don't see why they couldn't just wait. Now they have holes to fill and no draft pick.

It's a long wait, but when you know you are probably getting Staal's brother in the future.. to me it's worth it.

Regarding CBJ, could it be interest in Brassard + Methot?

If we are to trade Gagner, we do need a replacement for C who isn't super raw. Brassard kind of makes sense.

Gags to Carolina? To Dallas?

Why wouldn't they be? Their biggest concern was depth up front and they just got a big, skilled, two-way centerman and only gave up one roster player in the process. They still need a little more help up front, but they've got most of the major pieces in place.
