Glad to see both Fletcher and Flahr mention he'll have a shot to make the team. If I recall correctly, with Brodin last year they were saying he was back to Sweden for certain.

I could see him making the jump in one year.

Absolutely! They said they'll keep an open mind about it. I tend to lean towards he'll end up in the juniors for a year and make the jump the following season, but he will be 18 when the season starts and its not unheard of.. I like his attitude!

Okay that's good. Even if Dumba stops growing, he still has the wingspan of a 6'3" player.

I've seen a lot of posts concerned about his height. I think height is overrated with players. Who cares if a Dman is 5'11" or 6'02". In the downlow defensive game I would rather have a strong dude that is less of a inadvertent screen against our own goaltender. At a smaller vertical stature, and with Dumba's potential strength, it could work to a his advantage to be able to get a little underneath the Backes and JVR's and push them up off balance, but still give the goalie a better line of slight of the puck/puckcarrier. Strength/weight more important IMO. It's late, I hope the post made sense of the point I was trying to convey.

One thing about this front office... they target HEART and LEADERSHIP in the draft quite frequently! I don't think anyone would claim any of the prospects they've aquired as being lazy and uninterested.

Definitely helps as a defenseman.

Also helps to have make-up speed for possible mistakes... it's why we could settle for Burns making many of the mistakes he did... not only did he have an overly conservative Schultz helping him, but he also managed to get back to cover his own errors simply by speed alone.

I agree to a certain extent.

Height isn't the only thing that makes a player physical. Its the balance between height and strength.

If you are 6-3 and you 180 lbs, you're lanky. If you are 5-10 and you're 180lbs, you are a tank.

And I rather have the tank of my defense. Obvious if you are 6-3 215lbs compared to a 5-10 180lbs, the first guy is going to have a much easier time pushing people around

So true! I think thats what ultimately makes a winning team, regardless of sport. You want generals on the ice. (Thats the military in me speaking)...

~cheers

Toronto boards reaction to Reilly is pretty hilarious too. They wanted Forsberg.
