Rate the players, video game style
Simple, rank the players on a scale of 1 to 100, similar to what you would see in a video game like NHL '12 or 2K. If enough people do it, I'll average out the numbers and see if there's some kind of consensus. Call it blind curiosity.
I'll start.
Ward - 90
E. Staal - 89
J. Staal - 86
Pitkanen - 85
Skinner - 84
Jokinen - 83
Gleason - 82
Boucher - 81
Ruutu - 80
McBain - 80
Tlusty - 79
LaRose - 79
Faulk - 78
Corvo - 77
Harrison - 75
Brent - 73
Peters - 72
Bowman - 71
Stewart - 71
Welsh - 70
Dalpe - 70
Boychuk - 69
Nodl - 67
Dwyer - 65

Are these numbers strictly current value, or do they have some potential value added in?

Corvo would be about an 84, until you factor in his 0 rating for defensive awareness.

He didn't USED to be like that. What happened?
Can Jordan Staal jump start Eric?! If not, WHAT DO WE DO WITH HIM?
A superstar player who takes MONTHS off is worse than a average player who always gives 100%, isn't he???

Chuck...you're doing it all wrong.
Change those sentences into numbers, then you'll be playing the game correctly.

Thinking about this EHM style, assuming that 99 would be reserved for generational players in their prime (Hasek, Lemieux, Gretzky, Orr, Howe, etc.) I'd have Crosby and Malkin as the best 2 in the league both at 95s, followed by Weber, Lundqvist, Stamkos at 94s. So that said:
E. Staal - 90
Semin - 88
Skinner - 87
J. Staal - 87
Jokinen - 80
Ruutu - 80
Tlusty - 78
LaRose - 77
Welsh - 74
Dwyer - 74
Brent - 72
Bowman - 71
Nodl - 71
Dalpe - 69

Riley Nash - 67

Brett Sutter - 65
Pitkanen - 85

Murphy - 70

FWIW, I started a new "Be a GM" last nite (speaking of video games) with updated rosters, and as GM of the 'Canes I went from usually getting asked for 34-38 wins and pleasantly surprised with a playoff berth, to getting asked for 45 wins and a trip to the conference finals.

Damn, I want a new EHM so bad. EHM 2012 with FM's developments over the years would be incredible.

The feature list will be so far behind what was in EHM 2007, let alone the current FM games. Hopefully the OOTP guys stick with it and churn out something comparable in the coming years.
