Right now we drafted nobodys and the caps drafted nobodys. They will become somebodys when they do something in the nhl. I do disagree in taking/having so many d mem. But im also not a gm or a scout so who knows what everyone there was thinking. 11 teams did pass of foresburg. We will have to wait and see but now the pens have
Doubilon
Pouliot
Maana
Despres
Morrow
Samuleson
Harrigton
And hopefully we can keep engo and nisky for a while and of course letang.
Screw lovejoy let/trade martin and/or makalek and orpik. Get parise for sids LW.
And how many wingers are that successful in top 10 picks. Shero was pleased to add a talent like this to the Pens. Shero can deal from strength to acquire wingers down the road. Or go get a free agent like Parise with the cap room. Pck moving defensemen are always valuable to teams looking for PP or back end speed. Now if he can move Martin, but Shero is blind to his shortcomings. If Shero and Bylsma fail next year due to a crap D or inadequite coaching, both will be gone.
The point is as many others tell... He is a reach and some see him as a boom or bust pick... I think Ceci was a safer pick... With more tools... Or even Koekkoek....

Agreed, Ceci would have been my D pick. I don't see the need for all the D, there was lots of good forwards left. Hope RS has plans for all these D!
I like Pouliot a lot and he's perfect for the Pens who like their defenseman active. IMO he just might be the best passer in the draft and I flat out love a kid that can long pass at this age. He has to learn to bring it every night but his high end game is elite.
After looking how the 22nd pick played out I dislike this even more. Shero should have at least drafted 1 forward with one of the 2 picks and he didnt. We got a good defenseman at 8th and another good one at 22nd and still lack offensive prospects. Heck... We didnt even get a forward prospect in the Mchalek or Staal trade.
Didn't I say this was coming? The crying and whining? It's like I can see the future...
People cried about Despres... Anyone crying now?
People cried about Morrow... Anyone crying now?
People crying about DP now... Wait until he matures and you see him play, unreal vision.
The Pens have the sickest blueline farm in the league. No team is even close, seriously.
Shero has just created his own blueline gold mine to leverage... Do people even realize the plethora of options Shero has now?
Des was projected to go much higher and fell to 30th. Ya ppl wanted Ferraro buy Des was ranked higher.
Morrow was projected to be a 3rd rounder but Ray took a flyer on him at 23. Many Gms go off the boars after the first 15 picks or so and 23rd isn't that high of a percentage to get a stud so if Morrow flops it's not that big of a deal.
Pouliot was projected to be picked 15th or higher and was picked at 8th. Not to mention there was the 3rd ranked player still on the board who is a right handed RW with huge offensive upside, which is exactly what the Pend need. A top 10 pick HAS to workout or else it's a horrible pick. There's a Hickey or Skille or Brule every draft, and if Pouliot is that player the Staal trade is going to be terrible.
Reaching at 23 or 30 isn't nearly the same a reaching at 8. If Pouliot doesn't pan out and/or Forsberg does Pen s fans are going to regret this pick for years, IMO. That and the fact that the Caps 1st line in 3 years just might be Ovechkin - Backstrom - Forsberg.
Also, if Pouliot flops people are going to be 2nd guessing Shero's pick for ever, had he taken Fors and he flopped people would have at least known that he was BPA.

If he turns out to be anything like Goligoski or Giordano, we have ourselves a hell of a player. We know that Shero likes US players (i.e. Trouba), so let's hope they know Pouliot really well and are right that he was the BPA.

People just never see the big picture, it's a shame, really.
There is a reason Forsberg slipped.
When will people learn to trust the Pens scouts with blueliners?
Despres... Crying, whining...
Morrow.... Crying, whining...
Harrington... Crying... Whining...
Now the same people who were whining are suddenly bragging about these guys.
The only reason this pick didn't really wow me was because Forsberg was available at #8. I think we lucked out with Maatta being there at #22, but if you'd told me we'd walk away with a Forsberg/Maatta first round, given where the Pens were originally scheduled to pick, I'd have been on cloud nine.
I just think the combo of Forsberg/Maatta would have given the Pens both a top rated forward prospect and a top rated D prospect. Instead, we still lack top end forward prospects.

I'm with you here. I mean, no one could have foreseen Määttä being available at #22, so that cuts them a lot of slack...but we're weak on wingers in the system and there were two top-flight winger prospects on the board and we went with a system strength.
Still, I trust the scouts. It's just going to take a while before I fully digest things.
I do feel almost sorry for Pouliot, though. Määttä is being universally praised right now, while Pouliot is being panned...and it has everything to do with their draft position. Had we drafted Määttä with the #8 pick and Pouliot with the #22 we'd be the happiest fan base in the world right now.
