If they were going to get a D-man Skjei was a good one to get.

Why would they draft a defenseman this year who won't contribute for at least 3-4 years to trade others for Ryan?

As I posted before, my two highest left prospects were Collberg and then Skjei. I wanted the forward but I'm a sucker for great skating Dmen and that's what Skjei is.

What the hell would Colberg do for us? He hasn't scored a SINGLE POINT in the SEL yet and is a mirror image of ****** old Tedenby.

Aberg was at the top of my list, but this is a really, really nice pick. Great value where we picked and I love the kid's upside.

Those of you looking to address immediate needs via the draft. Please realize this is not the nfl draft. At #28 these players are at best 3-4 years away

I mean we didn't draft the guy to slot into the team we have now. We drafted him because we think he's NHL talent, and by the time he's ready to prove that who knows for sure what this team's strengths and weaknesses will be?

Horrendous. Absolute trash unless this kid becomes the second damn coming of Weber or Chara or Lidstrom or something... we cant score... this is a team of Beavis and Buttheads... CANT SCORE... and they STILL dont address the lack of finish when there's guys on the table... that THAT's WHAT THEY DO. I'd rather take a risk and have it explode in our faces... could've went Aberg, Collberg, Frk, Mc2, Hart, Kerdiles... anybody but D.

Newest Ranger Skjei is a big, yet mobile and nimble defender with a ton of natural ability. He is actually quite similar to Ryan McDonagh

Quote:
When you get past the fact that Skjei is a 6-3, 200-pound defenseman, which obviously is attractive on its own, you begin to see the breadth of his talent. For a player at his size, mobility is almost an added bonus. When you consider some scouts are calling Skjei the best skater in the draft, it’s enough to make a few teams in the latter half of the first round drool at their good fortune.

Skjei’s standout tool is obviously his skating. It’s not just speed, it’s the ability to use his feet efficiently with good edge work and an explosive first step. He doesn’t have overwhelming puck skills, but he certainly makes up for it with his feet. He knows how to pursue and protect the puck and uses his physical tools pretty well.

It figures that Skjei has an uncle that is a skating coach, because I don’t know that I’ve seen a player come into a draft as technically sound as this guy on his feet.

While his offensive upside is questionable, it’s a part of his game that has shown marked improvement and could eventually round out enough to him being more of a two-way guy.

Defensively, he is pretty sound. He makes really great decisions and as long as he keeps his game simple defensively, he becomes really tough to beat. Again, a lot of that has to do with his feet.

Skjei is going to have a lot of room to skate next year at Minnesota on the Olympic ice, which should help make him an instant impact player in college. He’s going to be an exciting talent to watch as his game continues to round out.

I think both Finn and Skjei are better than a couple of defensemen that were picked ahead of them, most notably Maata.

Would have preferred Collberg, but Skjei is a nice prospect. I'm not displeased.

I'm a little disappointed because I'm such a big fan of Thrower, but there's tremendous upside with this guy.

6'3 200lbs and skates about as well as McDonagh did at the same age. Very, very intriguing kid.

You guys act like a draft pick here in 2012 is going to make a huge contribution to this team's offense in the next 2-3 years... Kreider was drafted in 09 and just now made his debut.

You don't draft 18 year olds for current Needs, you take BPA. Some of you guys are really clueless.

Yes, a draft pick that won't play for the team for three years (at best) is going to improve our scoring this year.

Are you kidding? You don't address anything in the draft. You go BPA. I mean, how difficult is that to get for some of you guys? This is BPA for the Rangers. They don't draft for need.

I've been saying for a few weeks now that the BPA at 28 would likely be a defensemen. I'm not surprised. I trust Gordie Clark and his staff.

LEt the Devils take Collberg. He can join Tedenby and JJ in the not-producing-as-nhlers swedish section
