Did not see it coming at all... expected a defenseman. As if the if the rivalry needed more spice... it just got added though.

Drafting Subban is a major letdown for me at this point. I didn't expect a goalie in the first round but, if the B's decided to draft one I figured it would be Dansk.

I'll welcome him as I do all players in the Bruins organization but I was primed to see them pick a skilled defenseman. They have a ton of goalies in the pipeline and not enough skilled defensemen.

Funny it's a Subban, and awesome for the rivalry, but the pick was a hockey pick. Potential to be a #1 goalie; maybe they didn't see any top line (or maybe even top 6 forward/top 4 defensemen) potential left in the draft, so they picked the best player available.
Again, I don't have a problem at all with this pick. But I guarantee you there will be several top 6 F and top 4 dmen taken later than this pick... that doesn't mean they shouldn't have taken him though.

I agree, you take the best player available. You can always trade him or Rask later on if you want. (years down the road)

Love this pick, Subban won't be ready for at least a couple more years but I can live with a Rask-Subban tandem in the future.

With Thomas clearly on his way out (either through trade or the expiration of his contract) putting a projected top goalie in the system isn't a bad move-especially given that this year's draft isn't a strong one.

Told #pens are looking into rights to Ryan Suter. They tried similar with Hamhuis 2 years ago #nhldraft

No chance on Suter. Think smaller.

Thomas can't really be a reason to draft a goalie with the first rounder, can it? Malcolm is probably 4 years away at the earliest. Plus you have Rask as your number 1. If Rask flames out Malcolm isn't going to be able to help anything.

Well, once the first round is over it all boils down to scouting. You take the best player you can in the first round then rely on your scouts for the remaining picks. We got one of the two best goalies in the draft at a time in which we are losing our top goalie. In a few years this may look like a genius pick.

The thing that worries me about Subban is he wasn't a great goalie before this year, then he was great this year but got hurt and didn't play a full season. Just a small sample size as a first round talent.

HONESTLY
Nope.

Boston Bruins history of drafting goalies in the first round:

2002: Hannu Toivonen
1994: Evgeni Ryabichkov

Ken Dryden in the 3rd.
