Move Orpik for one of our plethora of stud D prospects and let Cooke walk for ET.

So if you believe that, Suter is not honed in on Detroit or anywhere, and a rights trade could still happen at some point before July 1.
I believe that a team believing Suter is intent on testing free agency would be monstrously stupid to do a deal for said players rights.

And Shero is hardly that.

Shero tried Suter's rights but Poile told him Suter is not intent on signing a deal before July 1, so Shero is waiting until July 1.

Here at NHL Draft hearing Suter is going to sign with Detroit and Parise will go to Penguins #Flyers
That's pretty much what I expect to happen. Even though Pittsburgh spending upwards of $30M on 4 forwards (maybe more after Sid and Malkin get new contracts in the next 2 off-seasons) makes no sense.

Good luck signing any of those stud prospects out of their ELC.

I'm not going to speculate. Shero's a smart GM, if he signs Parise and/or Suter, I think he knows what he's doing.

That's if they are on the market and if they want to come here. I don't think the Pens will sign both, I think the Pens will try to sign one of them and with the Pens D depth, I think it's Parise. But if the Pens sign Suter, then we have those assets to trade for a top 6 forward.

If Parise's supposedly as good of friends with Crosby as they suggest, I would assume they'd go for him.

Easier selling point.

Say we strike out on Suter but land Parise. Who do you think Shero will go after then? What about Garrison or Wideman?

I'm going to be pissed if Parise signs in the division after saying he won't sign with the Rangers (however "media friendly" that answer may have been). I will be a part of many of the future Pens conspiracy threads raging about how the NHL is pulling the strings and how the refs play favorites with Crosby. Prepare yourselves.

I thought about it and considering our glaring need for a winger for Sid, I think we sign Parise but instead of Suter we go for Shultz. He's got great potential and has what it takes to become a top pairing guy. He will be cheaper and better for the future when we need to extend Malkin and Letang. The only problem I would think Shultz would have is not being able to play with Gardiner but I think he'd take the cup chance over Gardiner....?

Put me down as #5 then! I have to retire my gameday Staal jersey and jersey-style t-shirt and I can't think of a better way to do it than to get a Parise jersey if he decides to sign with the Pens

It's not like Pittsburgh would have no depth behind those guys though. And there's also the hope that some of our giant pool of defensive prospects will become NHL ready at some point & keep our defense cheap & homegrown.

What are u insinuating and what does any of this have to do with HF's shortsighted theory that the refs favor Crosby?

I'm a Habs fan and the thought of parise playing on crosbys wing is scary. They did very well trading Staal and one of parise/ Suter or both could be possible.

Shero isn't trading for his rights. He feels the Pens have as good a shot as any team to sign Suter.

His decision will come down to the Wings or Pens, imo. Both are really attractive options.

Shero has few players (Niskanen & Tangradi) left to sign and a significant amount of cap space, especially if the cap goes up.

Might as well be named the Evil Empire.

Don't worry, man. We have enough of those threads during the regular season.

Suter would make a great Pittsburgh team even better. That said he's probably going to sign with a team in the West.

You're certainly right about the depth upfront, I didn't realize Kunitz and Dupuis had 26 and 25 goals respectively. My concern was more about the D in the next year or 2 until all of those guys are ready.

So you went from:

"You can't sign Suter!!!!'
to
"You can't trade martin!!!!"
to
"You can't re-sign your guys after their ELCs!!!"

Pens should prolly just forfeit the season.
