I think it sucks. Phoenix committed theft tonight.

Lol they can dump Martin in a similar trade and end up landing Parise and Suter ( I know its not likely but with the cap space its possible)

Boy the Pens are all over the map today with their picks and trades. Wonder if they'll get in on Nash sweepstakes, Parise is too big a gamble i think for this.

I'll agree with you if on July 1 don't end up with Suter or Parise

Penguins are making a huge gamble..

Trading away one of your best defensive defensemen and your top defensive forward in hopes of landing big name Free agents and hoping that their prospects can step up and play great.

Detroit has more cap space and will guarantee #1D playing time, 1st PP. Detroit can throw 16 mil in cap space at both of them. And then have money left over to resign it's RFAs/pursue someone else.

I think Pens might be making another trade for a Dman. Not Suter b/c he is GOING to test FA. Pollie(sp) has confirmed that, and his rights are NOT available.

Relax Pens fans....have faith in Ray! What did we give up to get Z...Nothing! We got a couple of prospects and money available to spend. There is a plan in place, and I trust Ray. May be Parise, may be Suter, may be both, who knows. What I do know is that one of the more conservative GMs wouldn't move those pieces without having a plan A, B, and C in place to make up for those losses. Have faith!

This doesn't make sense.

1) Phoenix re-aquired a player that didn't want to be there and bolted for free agency as soon as he could
2) Pittsburgh trades away the wrong defenseman (hello Paul Martin)
3) Pittsburgh pretty much gave him away for a 3rd rounder

Don't know exactly what the pairings will be but...

Yandle-Morris
OEL-Michalek
Klesla-???

That last spot would be between Schlemko/Summers/Rundblad/Gormley/Stone/Goncharov. Aucoin and Rozsival are UFA.

Yandle to the Pens for a third just to make things a little more even between the two teams.

Pens want cap space, no one wants Martin. Simple as that I guess.

Brandon sutter is not a prospect and July 1st has yet to happen. Plus they added vokoun if anything with a healthy malkin and Crosby they are probably already better than last year on opening night.

WTF? Pitt got nothing back for how good Z is, and I'm not trolling. Our defense is going to be so absurd next year, I'm psyched.

What a monstrously bad trade...you HAVE TO think that Philly or Ottawa would have offered more. I understand they are just clearing cap space but...

What the heck?

EDIT: Honestly...this might be the most bizarre trade I've ever seen in my entire life watching hockey. It makes no sense...

How is it similar other than having our prospects step up?

We didn't clear tons of cap space to hopefully sign multiple high valued free agents.. We signed one.. Bryz.. And that wasn't on July first when there would begin a bidding war on them

The Pens have almost $15 million in cap space now. They obviously are up to something. Both moves today shed a ton of cap space. There was a lot of talk at the draft of the Pens going hard for Parise. It has to be that, and Shero has to have some idea of getting him. It is the only thing that makes any sense. Hell he has enough space left over to make another big signing to boot.
