Someone was discrediting Girgensons ranking because of his competition, and low and behold I see highlights and he's playing against Trouba. So Girgensons competition isn't high enough, but Trouba doesn't get the same smack? Wonder if Trouba was Swiss if he would have been ranked so high?

Strength down the middle, going forward: Grigorenko, Hodgson, Girgensons.

Leafs have a lot of catching up to do, and these centers just aren't available in the free agent market.
But they realistically don't top off as top 3 centers. They are #2/3 centers unless they overachieve completely.

Leafs do need to draft top high forwards but they just weren't there. With Grabovski signed long-term, and with Colborne, McKegg and to a less extent Kadri (might be a winger in the NHL), it isn't a doom and gloom at the center position.

I'm not knocking Grigs and Girgs but Leafs are not going to draft a less valued player just because of need. If the Leafs drop them, grab a 2nd round pick and select either of those players, we are still missing a blue-chip prospect in the system. Someone that can be considered a franchise player. Rielly is far closer to a franchise player than Grigorenko or Girgensons.

In 3 years, when most players are expected to be in the AHL/NHL, the Leafs needs could be the complete opposite.

Get over the need and go for the most valued/ceiling players available.

Fine with Rielly ‎once Galchenyuk was taken. Much better selection then Dumba IMO.

Buffalo easily got three centre prospects in four months so I don't understand why people think Leafs are doomed in this area for years and years.

You've got to think some trades will be made today.

Bobby Ryan is as good as gone IMO, and the Flyers make a lot of sense. I'd think JVR or Schenn would be going the other way +.

Why does Columbus select before Edmonton in round 2?

Roy addressed those concerns yesterday. The major complaint he made was the Grigorenko loses enegery, but with the mono being diagnosed it doesn't take a huge leap of logic to put together lack of energy and mono. It is like saying I don't like the spots on his face, oh and he has chickenpox.

Russian thing is real, but good teams seem to be able to win Cups with Russians on their teams, Pittsburgh, Detroit, LA come to mind. If your team doesn't have the proper environment, obviously don't draft them. It is just a reflection of your organizational strength, not a criticism, a reality of the Russian factor.

Edmonton won the draft lottery only for the first round. The rest of the picks are Columbus first in each round.
