Another NCAA player. This one Michigan. And another great skater. It's pretty simple; if you can't skate then the Rangers aren't interested in you.

I don't know Bobby Mac; this kid can skate, Jessiman was never known as a great skater.

This guy will be playing for Michigan too. Good program. Let him do his thing there for a few years.

Love this pick considering I go to Michigan (and have season tix). I'll make sure to keep everybody updated on his progress for the next 3 years!

Boo Nieves, once thought to be a possible first-rounder falls to 59th to ‪#NYR‬, but he's got loads of skill, and upside. Nice value

When Cristoval Nieves was asked who his NHL role model was, he said "probably Zach Parise."
Quote:
What experts have said about Nieves:

Nieves is ranked 27th in the CSS final rankings. Here is his draft prospect card from NHL.com.

A respected New England amateur scout said this about Nieves:

"He still has a lot of growing to do in his body,' he's 6-foot-3 and 185, but in my mind I picture him at 215 or 220. The way he skates, with his natural athletic ability and head for the game, he's a really good prospect."

Matt Herr, the Kent hockey coach had this to say about Nieves' future:

"He's one of the best skaters I've seen this year. I think he can jump into the American Hockey League and play right now and you wouldn't even blink."

Adam Kimelman:

"Big kid with great speed, top-end offensive skills."

Steven Hoffner:

"Flashy forward is the highest-rated U.S. scholastic player in draft."

Rangers go the HS route again. Could be Kreider, could be Jessiman, but for the time being, he's Fogarty. I like it. Nice project

Jessiman didn't got to program like Michigan, with a coach like Berensen.

They went the route I wanted - high school kid with raw skills.

Didn't like the reports that I read about his hockey sense leading up to the draft and therefore was rooting for Mac squared instead. But, if Gordie and Gorton had him rated higher, then I am on board.

I like the pick. Don't know a whole lot about him, just remember reading an article on him when he committed to michigan.

Awesome.

American. Speed, skill and size.

Going to a great program. The list of skill NHL forwards produced by Berenson is endless.

Nieves started taking hits because of his play in the USHL, but he still produced despite being one of the younger kids on the roster.

He's also a Syracuse kid and die-hard Yankees fan.

This kid over MacEachern?

Don't have an informed opinion, just asking?

Nieves fits the bill.

I love how the Rangers are giving a big middle finger to Hockey Canada. Sather's following Patrick's blueprint from the early to mid 1980s -- Swedes and Americans.

Nice pick. One of the better skill guys they could have picked who can also skate pretty damn well.

Questions with MacMac about the level of competition he faced. Nieves has just as much potential, but played at a higher level. Easier projection.

Boo Nieves tells me he was drawn to ‪#NYR‬ due to prep school/college success of Kreider, Stepan, etc...wants to follow in their footsteps

That's the reason why Schultz should sign with the Blueshirts.
