Winnipeg Jets Top 20 Prospect Rankings - #2

1. Mark Scheifele (Barrie Colts, OHL)
70.65% consensus, Trouba 13.04%, Telegin 10.87%

Added Spencer Machacek to the poll.

Probably best to keep the poll to 10 options, so nominate who you'd like to see next. Yuen, Kosmachuk and Redmond were the suggestions from the last thread.

I went with Trouba, but he's pretty close with a couple others. It'll be interesting to see how the next 3 or 4 play out.

Doing this makes you realize how poor the farm is, after the top 3 or 4 players the upside of most of the prospects is, rather low. Voted for Trouba as the #2 he is a solid prospect with decent upside.

I went Machacek because of his strong finish with the Jets last season. This is his make it or break it season. If he doesn't make significant headway into the NHL this season, then I think he'll pretty much be nothing more that a career minor leaguer. I'm hoping for his sack that the end of last season wasn't an aberration.

Trouba! I'd like to see Kosmachuk on here pretty soon, within the next few votes.

one of my biggest hopes is that Spencer carry on like he left off. He could go along way to providing a cog in a functional 3rd line. the kind of guy you like to cheer for. Honestly with this years brutal UFA market we could use some QUALITY help from 3 or 4 Ice caps.

I like Mach but here is why you won't see him as quite as crazy good as he was in the end:

Quote:
Spencer Machacek: Machacek led the IceCaps in scoring this season and put up 9 points in 13 games with the Jets, albeit with unspectacular Corsi numbers. Is his scoring rate sustainable? No, of course not. His on-ice shooting percentage was 26.3%, his PDO was 1213 and his 5v5 P/60 was an absurd 5.57. To put that in perspective, Sidney Crosby's on-ice shooting percentage was 15.17% and his 5v5 P/60 was 4.73.
That being said I think Mach is the most NHL ready (EDIT: oh and Cormier is about even) of our prospects and deserves a shot at FT (but hopefuly not handed to him). I think he'll play well in a 2-3 year future as a 3rd or 4th line RW in a cup potential Jets.

This is another landslide. Next one will be Telegin and that won't be close either.

After that it'll get interesting.

Add Kosmachuk, who should be flirting with the 6/7 spots.

My thoughts:
1) Sheif - 2nd line C with high 1st C potential
2) Trouba - 2nd pair D with mid 1st pair potential
3) Telegin - 2nd to 3rd line tweener with skill and finish to rise his potential
5) Postma - 2nd to 3rd pair tweener but needs to pick up defensive capabilities to reach that 2nd pairing potential
4) Kosmachuk - 2nd to 3rd line tweener like Telegin but less skill, more grit, and smaller sample pool/experience to go by
5,6,7) Cormier, Machecek, Klingberg - all are most likely capable 3rd liners with far better upside then our current being able to capably handle 2nd line with injuries
8) Kulda - 2nd to 3rd pair tweener like Postma but probably more 3rd pairing than Postma and oh so different: more defense - less offense, more what the Jets need and possibly more likely to make that last pairing spot (if Enstrom/Buff is still around)
9) Sutter - 3rd to 4th line shut down C, probably decent for 3rd line but most likely out played by Cormier
Yuen, Melchiori, Redmond, Lowry, and Brassard I do not know enough about or watched enough of them to put my own humble (and very aware that I'm not a scout) opinion.
Pasquale could jump that line but I need to see one full time AHL starter stint (AKA this season)

I'm not allowed to vote, but if I could, it would be for Jacob Trouba. I hope he turns out to be a punisher on the blueline.

(Of course I'm of the mindset that one cannot be too much like Scott Stevens, only not enough like Scott Stevens)

Again, not happy with the original list. Oh well. This is an easy win for Trouba, he has top pairing potential, with a nasty side. Gotta love that.

ADD ARTURS KULDA. How does this guy get no love, he is miles better than Melchiori for example.

EDIT: Also Hank, could we post like...

1. C Mark Scheifele (70.65%) Runners-up: D Jacob Trouba (13.04%) LW Ivan Telegin (10.87%)

since then we can get a sense of how consensus the pick was?

Good call on both accounts.

I'm very lukewarm on Kulda, but I agree he should be up there at this point. So count me as voting for Kulda next.

Made an "all-prospect team" to Finnish hockey boards. Just my opinions, but how you see it?

Ivan Telegin - Mark Scheifele - Carl Klingberg
Adam Lowry - Patrice Cormier - Scott Kosmachuk
Eric O'Dell - Lukas Sutter - Spencer Machacek
John Albert - Ryan Olsen - Vinny Saponari

Arturs Kulda - Jacob Trouba
Paul Postma - Zach Redmond
Cody Sol - Julian Melchori

Edward Pasquale
Chris Carrozzi

Our left wing is lacking, even though Kane is in the NHL. Daultan Leveille didn't make a team, I hope that we let him go and take 59th pick in next years' draft.

I don't really understand why Kulda would be considered a valuable prospect. He'll be 24 years old. He's played four full years of pro hockey and to me that's enough to show that he'll be a 6-7 guy at best but having not made the jump in four years I don't really like the odds of it ever happening.

It's hard for me to rate any of these 88 born guys very highly. If they were going to be important NHL'ers they'd have shown us more by now.

They are closer in age to Kyle Wellwood than anyone drafted this year and they are all a year away from officially going from prospects to career minor leaguers in my opinion.

Due to that low ceiling, a guy like Kulda wont be getting my vote until all the players with four to six years of professional development ahead of them are listed.
