I am really liking this pick. I believe with Tinordi, Beaulieu, Ellis getting close then we have another young guy in Thrower. Don't forget that Bennett, Nash, Deitz are also potential NHL Dman and we will have a strong D corps for quite awhile and may even need to trade some because of a bottleneck.
The Wiz comparison is pretty spot on in my opinion.
In the last few matchs with the Habs Wiz had pretty much stopped hitting and never much fought when he was in Montreal. Wiz is also a pretty strange cat. Thrower is more consistant and has a good head on his shoulders compared to Wiz.
Nah. Odelein didn't have the skating or the shot. Not a comparable.
Odelein's offensive stats are as good if not better than Thrower in the W. And one year, he scored 11 goals for the Habs. + he played over 1000 NHL games... Not bad for a skill less guy.

Odelin had a shot. Thrower isnt a speedster. Odelin is a good comparison. Having Emilin and Thrower as a third pairing sounds good to me(if he is a valid Odelin comparison).

Wiz played hurt for a large portion of his time in Montreal, especially at the end. He is also a better skater than Thrower is ever likely to be.
I love the Thrower pick but people have to lower their expectations.

Wiz had 3 ACL surgeries before the age of 25
so lets calm down on the great wiz skating tho, do you even remember him? it was rough to watch at times.. but he had a mean first pass
I say keep the same expectations, some people are acting like hes 5"10 180 or something, while hes already at 200 pounds, and seems to like to rush up ice to create odd man rushes, likes to get dirty, and has a booming right handed shot
If anything, id hope he can become an even better wiz who was drafted in the 5th round , theres reasons people had Dalton ranked far before he actually went, its only beneficial to our prospect pool

I never claimed that Wiz was a speed demon.....The previous poster said that Wiz stopped hitting at the end of his tenure in Montreal. He stopped hitting because he was playing hurt, much like Emelin at the end of last season.

That's why while I like the Wiz comparison, I have hopes Thrower can be a better defensive player assuming he doesn't get seriously injured himself.
