Says it gets $8.4 if goals are met. Mainly by booking non-hockey events. I would assume those goals are easily obtainable.

The biggest piece of news for me is that Metro and the Preds are teaming up to build a new ice facility for public use somewhere in Davidson County! Much needed extra sheets of ice. Has Jeff Cogen's fingerprints all over it as he lead the building of the Dr. Pepper/Star Centers in Dallas.

Hopefully they can work w/ Rutherford County to get their Rec Complex w/ sheets of ice up from the grave too. Was approved a while back but seems to have gone nowhere.

Can't get the upfront funding. The people working on it have not given up yet though.

The current amount which isn't far off that $8.4mil per year figure includes the management fee to run the building, a capped amount for the city's portion of arena operating expenses, and the incentive fee for booking more off ice events which is capped at $2mil per year to the team max off a 50/50 split of non-hockey revenues above a baselined amount. The big expense for the city is their portion of the operating costs.

Metro had the option for the past few years to reduce/eliminate the management fee or incentive fee ... either move would uncap their financial exposure on operating costs. Funny that they didn't take that option.

the best part of this deal is that this story is just business as usual, no hoopla about the team moving, no dramatic ordeals brought on by the metro council or sports authority, no influx of snooty Toronto fans on our boards interjecting their hatred for southern expansion... just a blip on this summer's radar... "Oh the Preds signed a new lease... lets talk about the roster next season".

Refreshing to say the least.

Is there a Nate Rau version with all of the usual panic?

How I truly envy all y'all.

(Now, if you'll pardon me, I need to go browbeat about a third of the Oilers fanbase to death... followed closely by the Rangers, Leafs, and a small contingent from San Jose.)

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!
