NHL Network said some scouts had him going in the 4th or 5th round.

I guess they liked him better than Bozon, who was still available.

6 foot 200 lb center who can score, what's not to like. Ooo, he's too old, almost 20! Give me a break.

Our Director of Scouting lives in Vancouver. Safe to say he's familiar with this kid.

Would have preferred Bozon and would have preferred to trade up a couple spots to take Winther.

Me neither...Bozon out scored him and he's 2yrs younger. Not happy at all with this pick

Good snag:

Quote:
31 - Jordan Martinook - Vancouver Giants - LC - Martinook is a solidly built, goal scoring forward for the Giants. Scored 40 goals this year in his last year of draft eligibility. Plays physical and shows a good ability to finish in a variety of ways.

I'm just gonna go ahead and assume that management feels like this, even though being a 2nd round pick, is more of a 'safe' pick.

Given than Knickle is based out of Van and is likely extremely familiar with his game Im not that concerned. He is a 40 goal guy who had a very good playoff as well.

This is how I feel. I don't know a ton about the guy, but he's got some attributes that I think people will like.

From Sarah McLellan's twitter....she caught up with Brad Treliving:

Quote:
Caught up with asst. GM Brad Treliving this AM. He said that if Samuelsson wasn't available at 27, Yotes would have traded out of 1st round.

Reason why? They wanted two second-round picks to make sure they nabbed Jordan Martinook. That's how much they like the winger.

Treliving said he doesn't like to compare players but he sees flashes of Adam Henrique in Martinook.
A lot of the posts on here seemed very negative towards this pick....maybe we need to just wait and see how this kid turns out. The Coyotes obviously see something in him that most of you are not seeing. Time will tell

Bozon has more pure skill than Martinook, but Jordan is a much better all around player. Certainly a Dave Tippett type of player.
