Okay, insert Brodin. Thoughts? Are you a little bit trepadatious going into the season with that core? If not, what have you seen/what is your gut telling you to make you optimistic?
If you read this board much you'd know nearly everybody here is very concerned about the blue line. We are focused on Parise because we believe its the only way we can lure Suter. If we miss both the timeline for the Wild extends and we hope for prospects to develop.
*Edit* I'm no insider so if that is what you want ignore my post.

Looking for insider Wild opinions.
Me gut is telling me that its sources have reported that well embeded insiders indicate that prevailing trends seem to follow that all signs point to the Wild being thin on the blueline unless we sign Suter.
Sorry for that long sentence, I was trying to think like a Parise insider for a moment.

Ahh sorry, looked for a defense specific thread on the first couple of pages and didnt see one. At least you guys didnt invest the proverbial farm on a young dman who has had one "good" season like my team did in Garrison.
So uhhh...if Suter doesnt work out, any interest in taking Ballard? lol
He's actually played just fine in his limited role with our team. AV just doesnt like him and hes constantly in the doghouse. Instead we play pylons...
Yikes, even fans with the thickest homer glasses known to man can't be overly thrilled by the lack of experience on the back end.
Suter HAS to be the Wilds priority, not Parise.
Thoughts?
I'm "inside" the airport, so i'm hoping that counts for something...
We all pretty much agree we lack experience. All those players are solid players but if we want to seriously be a contender in the playoffs THIS season and not the next, we need some guys who have played some decent amount of playoff games.
I think the Wild are just waiting for the responses from the Parise/Suter front.
If we miss out of both of these star players, maybe a guy like Rozsival, Carle or Salvador might help.
But again, while we do need veteran presence, we can't get tons of em because they Wild defense is inexperience, so they need the playing time. The only non-surefire NHLer there are Kampfer and Prosser, and they both still looked good at the end of last season

I'd love to have Brodin on the Wild starting this season, but we have a logjam of one-way contracts. Unless there's a trade, or we strike out on Suter, I just don't see it. Maybe it's not such a bad thing either, let the kid develop a little more without the pressure.
I have high hopes for Brodin but he most likely will not be an impact player next year. I'm curious who the last defenceman in the NHL that was in impact player at that age? Can anybody enlighten me?

Edit: OEL is year younger but Brodin would need his impact year to be next season to match him. I guess i didn't realize how young both of those guys are. I certainly hope Jonas can live up to those high expectations.

He doesn't really need to be an impact player right away. If he plays a smart and simple game, he'll be an upgrade over more than one of our defensemen.
My bet is if [see; when] we whiff on Suter, we get Carle. They'll have that done in short order after we get the Suter turn down. Although sadly, I don't really think Carle is a #1D on most teams. Here? He'd be the best we got.
