Felt bad for him, family members dying, heart surgery and heavy scrutiny from the media. The guy looked incredibly sad every time he got pulled which was often. That being said he did have some nice little hot streaks. Hope he does well

This year his top 4 was Phaneuf Schenn Liles and Gardiner that is solid but they are human and will make mistakes and the goalie has to be able to make a save he can't.

but what's the risk? We got him for essentially nothing and can sign him for cheap. He didn't work in Toronto, but he's a young guy with a lot of talent. Why not give him a shot when you know your team probably isn't going to be winning a Stanley cup next year?

I just want to state for the record that I have no problems making fun of the leafs, I actually encourage it.

Now to the goalie at hand. He still have #1 goalie potential. If he didnt sign for that absolute travesty of a team that is the leafs he probably would have been a top-10 goalie in NHL at the very least.

I wanted Mason back as the backup because I thought he played pretty well last year - he wasn't as capable as Pavelec at stealing games but he was consistent and at least didn't let in bad goals that lost them games - and he seemed like a steady veteran presence on the team. I guess Pavelec is old enough now that he doesn't need a veteran backup as a mentor and Gustavsson obviously has more upside than Mason at this point, so I suppose I'm alright with this. A 7th rounder is basically nothing.

Too bad the Jets aren't like the Coyotes defensively Smith is overrated.

Interesting if the Leafs are open to this. Does this add some credence to Luongo to Toronto?

I don't know I think Gus wanted a change and they would have lost him to FA anyway. They have Reimer and Scrivens still

I'm I Gustavsson fan and I think if he signs this could be a huge steal for the Jets. Not to mention if Pavelec does leave the Jets we would need another NHL goalie. It might just be a bartering chip to use in the Pavelec contract talks but I think that neither Mason or Gustavsson are starting goalies, but could possibly do well in a platooning situation.

The move smacks a bit of desparation for me. We could've just waited until July 1st instead of burning a pick.

Jonas Gustavsson is by far the worst goalie in the NHL. As a Leafs fan, I couldn't be more thrilled to be rid of him, let alone getting a 7th rounder. However, I do like the Jets and their passionate fan base so I hope you guys don't have to endure the atrocious goaltending displays that Jonas so faithfully displayed in the Leafs net so many times last season.

Cool!

Nathan MacKinnon is the centre we need!

Leafs fan are always glad when players leave the team. They were cheering when Murphy left.

Haven't read any comments yet, so here is my own opinion.

I actually LOVE this trade. Gustavsson is a fine young goaltender and I feel he will do well here for us. His main thing was getting OUT of Toronto.

Very well done, in my opinion.

That is only a solid top four with blue tinted glasses on.

Chevy knows what he is doing. Pavs might go, so just a little insurance is good between the posts.

I he signs got a goalie with NHL experience for nothing (7th rounder) Im not very high on him but will replace Mason...after his season last year Gus can't expect a pay raise

Good luck with Jonas. He's about equal to Reimer in quality but Burke foolishly signed Reimer longterm so they gave him every chance to succeed and a much longer leash than Jonas. I hope he does great things in Winnipeg, always liked him and respected his character for battling through his heart and family issues.

Interesting .... Mason sure sounded like he has accepted his role as a backup in Winnipeg, based on reading the paper today, and that he really wants to stay here.... So I don't see the reason for picking up Gus unless the Jets are convinced they are going to lose Pavs. You want a guy like Mason around to help teach the younger guys work ethic.
