For the record, I like Wisconsin's group the most.
For some reason the lists won't sort for me...I bookmarked it and will get back to you.

Pretty surprised that no one didn't take a change with Ullberg in the 7th round. The guy is a number 1 goalie in FEL next season for gods sake.

Also, Donskoi going undrafted after re-entering the draft is sort of a surprise.

I'm pleased to see that we didn't pick a defenseman until the sixth round.

you can't really look at forward positions as separate entities at the draft. You draft guys that play up front and you move them around as necessary.

That being said, it'll be interesting to see where BU plays O'Regan. Slim chance he ends up centering Nieto, he's going to be a freshman so unlikely but possible. They could play together on special teams. Maybe develop some chemistry.

Pollak's (update) story on Hertl selection (and with response from DW/Burke on who else they might have been targeting in 1st round).

What's next for Hertl? Czech Extraliga for a year then 2 years in Wooster?

He's got two years left on European contract. (Don't know if he has a NHL-out clause in contract.)

TBD.

DW mentioned bringing him over to development camp and seeing how things go from there.

My guess... with all the uncertainty over CBA, he'll play at least another year in Europe.

Under the current CBA (and my guess is a new CBA will have the same thing) there's a salary maximum in the AHL for ELCs...if Hertl makes more money playing in Europe than in the AHL (which is likely) he may not want to come over to play in the minors.

Next year, we won't have a 3rd rd pick (thanks Sheppard) and a 4th rd pick (traded to Chicago this year). Take out the annual 2nd rd pick giveaway and we'll have: 1, 5, 6, 7.

Next year's picks are future DW's problem. Present DW is all about the present.

The Doug Wilson school of asset management: why deal today with what you can put off til tomorrow.

Add in the extra 7th that DW picks up as a throw in at the deadline.

Unfortunately, unless you have the owners running the hockey ops, you're always going to have this problem. Why deal today with what will be your successor's problem?
