Brandon Prust to test FA

There were earlier comments about Glen Sather claiming that negotiations between the two sides weren't close.

Quote:
Sather tells Larry Brooks of the New York Post that while he likes Prust, he’s not exactly enamored with him.

“I don’t think we’re going to get that one done,” said the GM, whose club selected defenseman Brady Skjei from the USA-Under 18 Development Team with the 28th overall pick in the draft. “I like him, the team likes him, everybody likes him … but I’m not married to him.”

I would love Prust, but 2.1? OUCH. Too much for a 4th liner...even if it's a top-notch fourth liner.

Prust wants 3 years/$6.6M. Rangers are offering 3/$5.4M. Prust fired Newport Sports and hired Ritch Winter. 3 years at $6M. Split the difference. $1.8M isn't cheap.

Quote:
The 28-year-old winger, who is coming off a two-year deal in which he earned $800,000 per, is believed to be seeking a three-year contract in the range of $6.6 million while the Rangers are offering approximately $1.2 million less than that over the life of the contract.

He's not even going to get the 1.8 the rangers offered him on the ufa market. Sad day for prust, horrible decision.

Similar situation as Talbot last year. These guys aren't superstars & this money has to last them a life time so they pretty much have to cash in when they can.

Meh with such a weak crop of free agents why not? Im sure some team will pay him over 2 mil in free agency.

I would want to pay a premium for him, but anything over 1.75 really would become a liability.

As a Rangers fan, agreed.

I would love to have Brandon back, but you can't sign 4th liners to 2 mill a year deals, or anything close to it, especially when you're trying to add another top-notch scoring threat in your top-6, and add an upgrade on your 3rd defensive pairing.

He'll be replaced from within. Fast and Lindberg will look to take his spot.

Agreed. It would be another thing if he had put up 29 points this year, or had an exceptional playoffs, or even if he was younger and you thought he could be a third liner.

But at this point its pretty obvious hes a career 4th liner (a very good one).

Maybe a team with lots of space or trying to hit the cap floor will throw money at him but its too rich for a lot of teams.

Cheaper free agents like Asham and Tootoo could also be backup options for teams.

I'd sign him for 2.1.

I mean, maybe a 400k ''overpayment'' but I can live with it if we bury Gomez.

If he's offered more than 1.8 by anyone, he'll go there. If not, he'll stay in NY. Gut feeling. Although I'm not as sure now with that tweet..

I'd take him back on the Flames at $2m/yr... He brings an element we've really lacked the last couple of seasons.

He is not underrated. There is not a GM/Team in the league who would not love to sign him.
(besides Sather apparently)

At this point, the 600-750K extra per wouldn't mean a whole lot. One of the best 4th liners you can get.

you know what Montreal could use a guy like Prust so I think he's banking on someone like that overpaying
