That's over half the Top 9.

Compare to the Kings Top 9 with 100+ hits in a single season:
Brown
Richards
Stoll
Lewis

With Dwight King on pace for 100+ hits.

That's an impossible thing to prove. Even if I were to find someone of significance to claim that Phaneuf weren't a number one defenseman (I could show you an audio clip of someone on the Fan 590 claiming he's more like a #2 or 3- and that was from last night), we'd be arguing over the legitimacy of that source. Not only that, but by claiming Phaneuf is or is not a legitimate number one defenseman doesn't support mine, or your, point. At the same time, you won't be able to find anyone (of any significance) that claims legitimate number one defenseman aren't just those who are the absolute best at what they do.

We're clearly arguing over something where we merely differ in opinion over word choice, and the connotation of the word. Is Phaneuf a #1 defenseman? Well, technically yes, because he is the Leafs number one defenseman, but is he a legitimate #1 defenseman? No, in my opinion, but not many defenseman are.

I could post that very same proposal on main boards and Av fans will say it's not nearly enough.

I havent hear anything to be honest.

Im not sure what Henny is getting at, but from mu understanding Poile was in discussions with Burke yesterday about Schenn.

It was then tweeted that Toronto was in discussions with Philly and Nashville.

Plenty of people are waiting on a trade with Nashville, but the piece they may have wanted may already be moved.

Hey boys, just signed up.....

Paul Hendricks is teasing that another Leafs deal will be made today. I`m curious to see what its about.

The JVR trade was great, JVR wont land any huge hits, but uses his size along the boards and goes to the net, which is exactly what we needed. I really want to see a JVR-Grabo-Kulemin line.

The unrealistic Leafs fan in me wants to think it involves Suter or Weber lol

The way I see it:

Lupul-xxx-kessel
Jvr-grabovski-kadri
Kulemin-bozak-frattin

A #1 isn't really realistic but a guy like oshie berglund or c. Wilson might fit.

Phaneuf-Gunnar
Gardiner-xxx
Liles-franson

Hopefully Schultz. Maybe holzer?

He has been saying that since shortly after the Schenn/JVR trade and there is still nothing yet. I've given up checking and will just wait it out as there are all kinds of possibilities as to why there hasn't been any announcement yet - waiting for a player to waive a NTC, putting final pieces together, holding off until other players (Ryan, Nash, etc.) are moved, or deal fell through. That being said, he is still preaching patience so the deal is likely still in the works.

I'm not holding my breath on another trade. If a trade happens, Henny looks like a genius. If no trade happens, he can just say 'it fell through'.

A #1 goaltender is a little bit tougher but if you can be a #1 goaltender that can put up .915-.920 save % consistently, I think you're a star.
Those are very narrow definitions, no? What about a goaltender that has a .914 save percentage, but shoulders the load of the team, and makes timely saves? Fleury doesn't usually carry a .915 save percentage, yet 21 other goaltenders this year did. Is he not a #1 goaltender? I wouldn't label Theodore, Niemi, Howard, Giguere, or some of the others stars, and I couldn't support the notion that the NHL as 21 star goaltenders.

What about forwards? If you have a 40 goal scorer who generates his own offense because of his linemates' inabilities (resulting in maybe 25-30 assists), that puts him well below a PPG despite being a 40 goal scorer. I'd still say he's a top line forward, but not necessarily a star.

Everyone falls on a gradient, and stars are simply upper-end #1 forwards/defensemen/goaltenders.

I believe this to be the case as well.

I'm not sure what Hendrick was on about; but unfortunately the only rumours that can be speculated on at this time are the Luongo rumours (does not appear to be close; Gillis has his head up in the clouds... or up in something else ); along with the conversation at the Nashville table (likely Schenn related; but Burke may still be after whatever player was on the other end).

There are a number of #1 goaltenders and top-line wingers that are there out of necessity; there because there's no one better on that particular team.

That doesn't make them legitimate #1 goaltenders or legitimate top-line wingers. They're there out of necessity, much like Phaneuf is.
Incorrect.

Yeah, im just a sucker for trades, so unless he comes out and says there wont be one, i will be stuck thinking about it allllllllll day aha.

I`m sorta hoping that its a deal for Paul Stastny, He seems like our best bet for a #1 center this off-season. Him between the already sick duo of Kess and Lups along with a JVR-Grabo_Kule line #2 would just be an unreal top 6, loads of potential, and very young

This is a bit of a strawman argument, because I didn't ask about Phanouf. I asked "Perhaps you can provide some examples of hockey minds that refer to #1 defensemen solely as stars?" Stars, not Phanouf. I'll simply assume the answer is no.

Henny is on the MLSE payroll, if anyone has a read on things, it's probably him.

There's probably negotiations on-going, or he wouldn't string folks along.

Saw this proposal on Canucks board:

Luongo
Raymond
Ballard
3rd rounder

for

JVR
Franson
Lombardi

I'd think long and hard about this one.
