So are we in the "Not winnin' for MacKinnon" type mode yet? There are certainly plenty of tasty draft morsels in the top 10 this year.

If there is a year to tank, this could be it. Deep draft

I've seen this movie too many times.

We will make a 2nd half run to 10th place

Wouldn't that be a reason NOT to tank? If the draft is deep, you could get a stud even at #13.

Where as if there are only a couple good players, you'd need to tank to get a stud.

Assuming we do well enough to miss out on the top 5, I think Darnell Nurse is our guy. Our offensive inventory has been addressed in recent years, esp down the middle. Of course I'd add an elite forward like Mac, Barkov, Drouin, Lindholm or Monahan, but after watching our D-corps early this season it appears we could use some reinforcements. We've got the 2-way puck-mover good skater types with Pysyk/McCabe/Leduc, but after McNabb we don't have any physical guys aside from long-term projects Austin and Lepkowski. I can't watch Regehr snail around the ice as our only mean defender for much longer.

Nurse is a mobile, tough kid who plays with an edge and appears to be developing a nice 2-way game. Through 49 games his line reads 10g/20a/30p +14 93 PIM. "When a player skates down his wing, looks up and sees me, I want them to say, 'Oh God, I have to go against him again."

I want to roll in to Boston with this guy on our side. I can already hear RJ screaming "Nurse stitching up Lucic!"

Just like any other year there are different tiers of players. The top 3 of Mackinnon, Drouin, and Jones are in the top tier and will likely be picked 1, 2, and 3. After that I think there is a small drop off to Barkov, Lindholm, Monahan, etc. It's always best to get your pick of the litter.

I would rather have Zadorov over Nurse. Guy is HUGE and plays impecable defense.

How mobile is he/does he project to be? Offensive upside? Nurse's potential as a slightly smaller, weaker skating, tougher, more heady Myers-type of hybrid is intriguing to me.

Depending on where we finish, we need to elite level offense. Mackinnon, Barkov, Drouin, Monahan, Lindholm, Nichushkin.

I tend to agree, I'd be looking at all those guys you listed, but wouldn't care if we just went BPA. After watching the CHL top prospects game I'm on Jame's Erne bandwagon. He's got all the tools to be a great NHL player. I've also been high on Shinkaruk and would be happy if the sabres drafted him as well.

Yeah, but what if it's so deep you can still find top-line guys at the top of the 2nd round?

Well now that you mention it, I guess I'll add that McKenzie releases his mid-season, top 30 draft prospect rankings tonight on TSN at 10:30PM ET.

Seth Jones. Zero doubt the kid is going to be a superstar. Sky is the limit.

Seth Jones is the cream of the crop. He's the best defensive prospect I've seen in years.

Sounds like the scouts have Barkov, Lindholm, and Monahan in Tier 2. I love Monahan, btw. Every time I catch the 67s, he is awesome.

Jones

Mackinnon
Barkov
Drouin
Lindholm
Monahan

I have Monahan just outside the top 5 but he would easily be top 3 last year. This years draft is agood one, and I would be very happy with Monahan as a sabre pick

Seth Jones would be perfect to join Myers, Sekera and Ehrhoff in our top 4
