Are We Smarter Than We Think?

We all saw the Staal trade coming from a mile away. Did someone originally propose it and we all felt it would make sense? Did it leak from the media? It seemed like common knowledge that deal would happen. Even in my mock draft.

The Hurricanes love to take forwards early and this year will be no exception. Teravainen just seems destined to be a Hurricane (Just like I predicted with Zach Boychuk in 2008). He has absolute elite skills and could potentially have the best offensive upside in the draft, while some have been comparing his skills to Claude Giroux. His size and compete level have brought up red flags to some but not to the red-flagged team. Teravainen will make their top six even scarier than it already is for years to come. I can also see this pick along with Brandon Sutter and a defensive prospect being dealt to Pittsburgh for Jordan Staal. That is the one potential deal I will call. Pittsburgh here would then take Jacob Trouba.

Other trades too, can't quite think of any, but we seem to be right about. Kaberle for Colborne and a first, but there was another one I can't quite remember....

I think its probably the opposite haha. (when asking if 'we are smarter then we think').

I just find it hilarious when people lose there minds on here about draft picks like they know better then the professionals that are doing it.

My favorite moment tonight was when Pierre started yelling at the flames for not picking Maata at 14 trading down then he was still available at 21. Then they go off the board and pick Jankowski then at the end of the night he said it was his favorite move of the draft.

I recall the Penner-Teubert trade being highly speculated on here and it came true.

Won't take away from the intelligence of posters on this board, there are really really dedicated hockey minds on these boards, with that being said, there are just as many not so smart ones... Put them together and someone is bound to get it right every so often.

Caps posters have been calling for Eakin + 16 to Dallas for Ribeiro. Eakin + 54, well, that's just even better.

Varlamov + Eakin for Ribeiro + Forsberg. Will be interesting to see how that looks a few years down the line.

and most seem to think Visnovsky was worth more and even Ribiero to an extent...........Michalek deal was a weak cap deal but in the same breathe I think Carolina gave up too much for Staal.

I have called many trades, but then i come to the realization that it was just consequential. I have no source and have any connection to the NHL, therefore no way i would have known it was actually going down. It was speculation that only my friends and i would know. Besides, there was no proof of my "mind reading" ability before the trade goes down, so it all became meaningless. Just like this thread.

If an NHL GM was smart, he would be on here reading up.

GMJN obviously has some major problems with Ribs. Traded him for below value, I think if he pushed we probably could've gotten #16.

Actually, it seems that one reporter reports a rumor awhile in advance and everyone talks about it and realizes that it's very close.. Then when it happens, we aren't really shocked..

Same thing with Carter for Voracek + 8th last year

That deal for Staal was based on the assumption of a long term contract. They know they will be able to get him locked up Pitt made them offer more. Definitely not a 1-year rental deal.
