I'm a Schenn homer so I'm giving the edge to the Flyers on this one

Now I have to watch JVR play my Sabres 6 times a year...
Have you seen their cast of forwards? Simmonds stepped in and replaced JVR this past season.

A forward corps of:
Giroux
Briere
Hartnell
Simmonds
Schenn
Couts
Read
Voracek
(Jagr)*

Is more than dangerous enough. They also didn't miss a beat this season with JVR's limited production.

JVR has done nothing to this point.

He's still a guy who has potential and shows flashes, but he's a 23 year old with 99 points in 196 career games. Not exactly what you'd expect for a guy with as dynamic of a skill set as he has.

His effort isn't always there either, and he got signed to a huge deal coming off a good playoff run... and he did not have the same effort, jump etc when healthy last year.

Exactly my thoughts. I don't like the value that Philly got as much as I do for Toronto, but you can't hate a trade that fills a necessity.

I think the emergence of Voracek could more than replace JVR within the system.

The internal progression of Couturier and B. Schenn should more than make up for the loss of JVR. Good hockey trade for both teams.

Both teams deal from a point of strength (especially if Leafs sign Schultz or have Reilly step in) and address weaknesses. I'm a firm believer that Schenn can get back into form so this looks like a fair trade but I can see why Philly fans would want a + with Schenn.

You'd move Lupul to the right side after having his most productive season of his career playing on the left wing with Kessel.
Then you'd give Lupul's first line LW slot (a guy who was over PPG last season) to Nikolai Kulemin who had 28 points last season

I think Philly wins. The leafs need a center not a injury prone winger

I love Schenn My favourite player, bye buddy. Said from the beginning this is as fair as trades get. Even when Philly fans were preaching how Schenn would never get JVR and it would take a swap of 1sts to make it even i knew eventually it would be a 1-for-1 deal.

Leafs have too many wingers now...

Kulemin/Macarthur + Scrivens/Reimer for Luongo?

For everyone listing Leafs lineups, if we don't make any other major moves, I'd like to see us give this lineup a go:

Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
JVR - Grabo - MacArthur
Kulemin - Kadri - Frattin (with JVR we have plenty of wingers, could move Kadri back to C)
Crabb - Komarov - Brown

Waived/traded: Connolly, Lombardi, Army, Steckel (assuming Komarov takes his spot, if not then Steckel stays as the 4th line C)

With that being said, I don't think Burke is done. I think he goes hard after a #1 C, though he very likely misses out. I also think he goes hard after Luongo, and that could mean moving one or two of our current forwards. Obviously this would affect the lineup.

I just remembered the Ruutus, Pyatts, Koivus and the O'Reillys.

Doesn't Niklas Kronwall have a brother that played in the NHL?

i love how everyone said we would have to add another piece with schenn in order to acquire JVR. hahaha.

anyways, its a fair trade, and i honestly hope it works out well for both teams.

Didn't Burke once say "Luke Schenn can be had for 10 first rounds picks."?

Looks like the asking price had dropped significantly
