Are you serious? Ugh.. Do not know what to think. I think we could've got more and I wasn't even a Schenn fan.

But at least it's more interesting news then Gus getting traded for a 7th.

I love it!! Let's face it schenn was too slow and was getting worked almost every game. He's young and I hope he bounces back....

YEAH JVR!

Schenn's skills are reduntant on the team we have right now. Gardiner, Blacker, Liles, Reilly, I guess you guys know which way the D is going with. Opens up room for Schultz. lol

Yeah definitely, I agree. But still, I just really want the Leafs to start loading up on some centers. Kadri looks like a winger, Colborne is just 'meh' for me. Grabo is good but that's about it.

The Leafs will regret this. Just another name in the long line of players the Leafs gave up on. Good luck in Philly, Schenn. JVR is a good fit but I'm disappointed in losing Schenn. I still remember praying we'd land him at the '08 draft and then jumping up and down in my living room when we did. Take care Schenner, you and your brother are going to be great in Philly.

Exactly my feelings Mess. I wish all the best to Luke, great for him to play with his brother now.

JVR's injury problems are a concern, but any time you can move a guy like that for a top-six forward with size, you probably should.
Last 1 season...

fair trade, both sides got players that were under achieving but have star potential. i would of preferred to add and try to get sean couturier. will suck playing vs philly, schenn will destroy our forwards.

Sick, I like it! I wish Luke well, but he wasn't really needed here, and for quite some time I haven't been very high on his play. Not much offensive talent, slow skater, questionable hockey IQ, a physical beast who outmuscles everyone, but not consistent defensively in terms of positioning and reads. With us having such great defensive depth, I really like dealing Schenn for a young, promising power forward. JVR should look good on our 2nd or 3rd line right away, and with his tools he potentially has 1st line upside.

Fingers crossed for Schultz now. We have plenty of left d (Gardiner, Rielly, Gunnarsson, etc.), but with Schenn gone our only other particularly good right d is Franson (Liles is a left d, right?). Opens up a spot if we can convince him to sign.

It's a fair trade, hopefully both players turn it around. Now maybe people will stop whining about not taking Forsberg

As the Leafs being my 2nd fav team, I like the move. JvR adds needed size and scoring and moving Schenn lets Gardiner further develop and if they add Schultz, its even better

BEST PART OF THIS TRADE: van riemsdyk is a cap hit of a mere 4.25M per year for the next 6 years!!!!!

Yes, he has loads of potential, but he doesn't come without risk.

We still need a center, so what pieces are in play with JVR moving into the top 6? Mac? Kuley? Kadri?

JVR missed 1/2 of last season with concussion issues playing only 43 regular season games.

Concussions are risky business and worse than just a broken bone.

Ive been calling for this for months. It just makes sense. This is huge for the Leafs.Huge. JVR makes the top 6 a ton more competitive, he's got a great contract, and he needed opportunity to be a top 6 threat.

Great to see this gets done.

The only way the Leafs regret this is if Schenn picks up his play with Philly. Because the Schenn we watched for the last two seasons was nothing to be excited about.
