Lupul - _____ - Kessel - 1st line scoring line
JVR - Grabo - Kulie - 2nd line shut down line that can put up points
Kadri - _____ - Frattin - 3rd line, sheltered line, playing against weak opposition to score goals
Brown - Steckle - _____- 4th line, grinding physical line
Great trade for both sides. Both players have tremendous upside and address positional needs. I hope Schenn develops into everything we thought he'd be, but I have to admit I'm excited as to what a healthy JVR could become.
One of the upsides of having tremendous defensive depth.
Schenn and JVR are in pretty similar situations for different reasons but I feel like Schenn is kind of getting a raw deal from some here. He's going to be good. I think in value this deal is pretty close to a push but just makes a lot of sense for both sides.
Yeah definitely, I agree. But still, I just really want the Leafs to start loading up on some centers. Kadri looks like a winger, Colborne is just 'meh' for me. Grabo is good but that's about it.
Well it depends on how significant Colborne's wrist injury was. It's kinda like Grigorenko playing through the ankle sprain/mono...great that he did it. Shows a lot of heart...but he still sucked while he was playing through the pain.
Colborne has never looked good in any of the live Marlies games I saw this year (mind you...neither did Scrivens tbh...so obviously limited viewings).
Maybe this means we can turn Kuli or Mac into something?
My first reaction is I'm really disappointed. Although Luke didn't have a great year, he still had good trade value. What the Leafs really need is TOP line centre, not yet another 2nd line centre. We got a little bigger up the middle and JVR can play, but I don't see him being a difference maker. We were weak in the centre and deep in defence, so I suppose from a balance perspective it makes sense. I would still have much rather seen Burke package up Schenn with a another player or two to get a TOP centre. That's what this team really needs.
