The only way the Leafs regret this is if Schenn picks up his play with Philly. Because the Schenn we watched for the last two seasons was nothing to be excited about.
That's what I'm thinking as well. As much as I appreciated his heart, he was very slow and his hockey smarts weren't always there. I don't know what to expect from JVR, but I wasn't expecting much out of Schenn down the road.
My first reaction is I'm really disappointed. Although Luke didn't have a great year, he still had good trade value. What the Leafs really need is TOP line centre, not yet another 2nd line centre. We got a little bigger up the middle and JVR can play, but I don't see him being a difference maker. We were weak in the centre and deep in defence, so I suppose from a balance perspective it makes sense. I would still have much rather seen Burke package up Schenn with a another player or two to get a TOP centre. That's what this team really needs.
This past season was his worst, but he really hasn't impressed me at all since his rookie year. A change of scenery could be just what he needed though, so I wish him the best. If he sheds some weight this summer and improves his skating, I think he could be a good second-pairing guy similar to Brooks Orpik. Either way he fits right in with the young core Philly is putting together.
Excited to see what JVR can do with the Leafs next season.
We'll agree to disagree then. I thought he was really good 2 seasons ago. Matter of opinion of course. But he was SO bad this year that it could certainly cloud either of our judgements
Schenn was my favourite player on the team, too bad it could not have been Franson or Gunnerr instead, I am going to miss Schenn, I *****ing loved that kid! Hopefully JVR becomes a more physical presence and becomes nastier.
