Schwartz >>>> Rattie

Schwartz is NHL material. Should have a good career.

Rattie has high end talent, but is very raw still.

Are you saying you would do:

Gio + Backlund

for

Schwartz + Cole?

Its Hudler and Cervenka that are gonna need the size on their wing (both are generously listed around the 5'10'' mark). Plus Glencross will serve as the defensive anchor on that line, as well as infuse a little more speed to compensate for Hudlers lack there of.

On the 3rd line Backlund serves as the defensively responsible center while Stempniak has shown the ability to get into the corners and cycle the puck. Him and Baertschi together should also be good at creating offense on the rush.

This wont be a team that grinds you down, we will likely have to be a quick strike team that transitions quickly. With the skill we have at forward as well as the puckmovers on D if it click under Hartleys system we could have a good team, if not it will be a disaster.
No offence to Stempniak, but we don't want guys taking liberties with Backlund and especially Baertschi which is why I'd go with Glencross on that line. Like I said, I'm sure all the lines will be shuffled as the season goes on.

What about Bouwmeester and Backlund for Cole and Schwartz?

Deal?

Done! Unless I have been mis-informed about how good Cole and Schwartz are. This is a good deal for Calgary as we get an NHL ready center to bring into the lineup. Our D takes a hit, but Cole should be close to NHL ready and might be able to play this year.

I wouldn't trade JBo unless we get a number 1 Center. No way. He is our last bargaining chip to get that piece.

I'd have a hard time saying no to that, and its not like the Blues wouldn't benefit from it. They would be a much stronger team now by making that deal.

If they want Gio, I'd do the same deal but then I would insist on adding a 2nd.

We don't have the expendable assets to get a legit #1 center. If we could get Stastny for example, I would, but I don't think the value is even close. That would be my first choice, but this is a good hockey deal. You get two guys who should be able to play in the NHL this year.

Schwartz projects to be a 2nd/top line centre. This would be a step to getting one IMO.

I guess I would rather just get Berglund and I do think it's possible.

Are you joking?

Cervenka
Hudler
Cammy (full year)
Bartschi (projected)
Wideman
Aliu (has a shot)

These are additions, before the summer is even close to over. Trust me, for better, or worse, this team will be much different than last year's.

Cool story bro, should probably head back to the Oiler's board.

Man trust me, I would love Berglund, but I don't think many people on our board realize how much STL values him. He was once thought of as being the next Sundin. So far, he has been extremely inconsistent over long stretches, with some flashes of absolute brilliance but they are still very high on him. I doubt they would do Berglund for Gio straight up, they only way they trade him is by a massive over payment. While Berglund would also be my preference, I actually think Schwartz has at least the same if not higher ceiling. That would be a solid deal for the Flames IMO.

I'd try to do it without giving up Backlund, but I really like Cole and Schwartz.

If STL let go of Berglund, I'd be all for that. I just don't think they want to, not now that they are contending. They'll be looking to add talent for right now, not subtract from it.

Dont see Hudler, Cervenka and Wideman shooting us into the playoffs. Especially with the loss of Olli.

Our Center depth is horribad, and our defense is pretty weak although better with wideman (losing boumeester would be awful).

Bouwmeester and Stajan might get us Cole and Rattie. But I really feel like if we are getting Schwartz that Backlund is totally replaceable, plus lets not forget about Reinhart.

Jagr just signed a 1 year 4.5 million.

Would you rather have Hudler at 4yrs 16mil or Jagr at 1yr 4.5mil?

Jagr at one. Might be a better influence and match for Cervenka and the team. I'd rather take my chances with next year's crop of UFAs instead of keeping Hudler for that length.

MVW - I don't disagree... I just wouldn't start the negotiations with Backlund involved. Even if he's eventually replaced by Schwartz I'd rather have them battling for the spot, pushing each other rather than giving him away before he's really had a chance to fully develop.
