This - the one paper in town is against the arena since it's in cahoots with the Port who is also against it because they are already losing jobs & work to Tacoma.

Key will get some touch ups and renos, but WNBA and Seattle U may move to the new arena too. I would think the best thing is to convert it to a top flight concert venue for 10-12k ppl.

And as for the Mariners complaints, the Ms and MLS Sounders both played on Saturday night in town next door to each other. Ms drew 17,671 and the Sounders 38,948. Maybe the Ms should complain that the football/soccer teams are bad for the city too.

That might be the right way to go, since the music venue, Sodo Showbox, will end up being demolished to make room for the new arena.

*hand up*
katz is pulling out all the stops. It's blackmail, plain and simple. See penguins and their dealings with KC while waiting to get funding approved for their arena.

I mean based on rumors that it could be coyotes or the islanders but Oilers. Oilers would be the least team i would expect.

Is it just me or is that a bit of dork move by Gretzky to be front and centre with the Oilers brass as they threaten to move the team from Edmonton.

I did, and I'm an Oilers fan! If they move I would love it since I live in Oregon and then would actually have a chance to see them place once in a blue moon.

It is funny in a warped way. Afterall Edmonton erected a huge bronze statue of Gretzky.

Maybe it has something to do with both areas working to build new arenas, while also potentially entertaining renovating their old arenas?

The Oilers are not moving to Seattle people....

Key arena will be renovated internally anyways with or with out the NHL. It'll be prepared as if the NHL will play in there for a couple years.

But i agree with you i don't see it being the oilers but gloves are off if katz and Edmonton can't come to that agreement.

Its definentely a negotiation strategy move the Oilers are making. Scaring people in Edmonton will cause them to cough up more money

Do not for one minute believe the Oilers would ever leave Edmonton nor would I want to see it happen even if it meant an NHL team in Seattle. Well maybe the last part is not true but would hate to see the Oilers anywhere but Edmonton. Do not see it happening.

Dear Charles Wang, THIS is how you use leverage. Please schedule a meeting with Hansen ASAP.

Love, those of us who want a NEW NHL arena at the NVMC site.

Seriously, Hansen does get things done. Any NHL team that talks to him should get their current city's attention real quick.

Yeah, same here. I don't think anybody should want the Oilers to move. It would be even sadder than the Sonics move.
