Hopefully the nucks fans don't see this, they'd go berserk. Some of your evaluations are terrible.
Kesler + Lu for Kadri, Colborne, Franson, Connolly and a 2nd? Why on Earth would Vancouver do this?
It would have to include Gardiner, there really is no way around that. They would instantly be guaranteed Schultz if we traded him. A more realistic deal is
When you think about it, you gotta look at the human element of a Luongo deal. Burke and Gillis don't like each other and neither one will want to look like the guy that got screwed with one guy getting the better of the other.
With that said, it actually makes more sense to make it a larger deal so that both guys can talk about how they got the best players in the deal and spin it however they want.
If Burke sends a 1st for Luongo, he looks stupid, but if Gillis ships out a top 10 goalie in the league without getting a 1st, then he looks stupid. Add a couple pieces to the deal to make it so determining true cost is up for debate.
Just a thought
This is not a simple two GM pissing match.....the player has a NTC and he has a lot of say here. He wants to push for Florida so that he can move back home. I believe the rumours that he will not at this time waive for Toronto.....
Vancouver will not be getting a 1st from us nor anyone else unless another player is involved in the deal. They will also have to take some contract back in any deal.
The true cost is his contract.....we take it on and they take contract back....small parts included but nothing more.

Only one looking stupid right now is Gillis, Burke is just like all the other 29 GMs.
Acquiring Kesler for anything significant now is a huge risk. The style of game he plays means he won't be a very healthy guy all the time, and having already had two big years, he could be ready to fizzle out like Lecavalier did after his big years, or start declining like other power forwards in their late 20s like Wendel Clark.

Ya I agree, I was just commenting on a way for both to save face. No way I would send a 1st for Luongo unless you are getting something else back. That something else Gillis takes the position that it was a throw in, whereas Burke says we didn't mind the price because we believe in that added player, etc.
You have to be an ESPN Insider or subscriber to get access. If someone would be so kind to get that little audio snippet and post/link it I would be grateful.
