Anyone know the last Hab to be top20 in the league for hitting? He was an OK shot blocker. With a year of NHL experience, I imagine he will be better. I hope he fits into the 2M price tag.

Optimist post of the year?! Check back in April
I think you will be more than surprised how good Emelin will be in year 2 in the nhl. I think people forget that not only did he have to adjust to a different sized rink and different style of game but also it was a culture shock too. If you get a chance to look at the game against sweden in the world championships you will see how much of a game changer he really is.... just ask Johan Franzen.

Or go to the main boards and ask what they think of Emelin. They were hating on him pretty badly during the Worlds

i know, it's not a question of money but rather roster spot.... we have seven in without new hiring and let say that Tinordi or Beaulieu kills it in training camp? I think the team will make an offer to Ryan Sutter like everybody else but that's it

By training camp Suter will be under contract elsewhere and wearing another uniform, so how would the Habs be able to sign him?

Funny how I forgot how dominant he was able to be. He is but a shadow of his former self these days.

Has the potential to be a very solid number 4 if you ask me, is one of the league leader in hits and god know how solid this kid hits, his skating is absolutely great for a hitting machine like this as well as his mobility and offensively I feel there is alot to come..

Unless we get rid of somebody (namely Kaberle) how could we afford to?
Knowing Therrien, he'll want more sandpaper. Weber, Diaz, Kaberle arent his type of players

Diaz has skills though, I think his role should be secure.

I think kaberle will be bought out or traded ... seems to me like he's the exact opposite of what terrien is looking for .

Dominant only because Markov made him look good. Emelin didn't have such a luxury.

Very true, we all knew that but it seems that Brian Burke might not have.

Yes, but your argument was based on the necessity to stop incidents like Malone going after Emelin. In a game when we had an enforcer dressed. So it didn't really make much sense.

How likely is it, that Diaz will stay in Montreal after this signing?

I think we'll start to see more of his offensive game this year too, made zero sense why the guy got minimal PP time last year while retards like Campoli played on the PP.

Diaz will probably be back for sure, him and Emelin played their best when they were paired together so there is a good chance they will start the season as our third pairing.

Pretty much a lock. Teams don't usually sign players then sign them.

People think an enforcer wouldn't have helped int he Malone situation? The next time you see Malone on the ice you send the enforcer to send a clear message.

And if that enforcer wasn't dressed for that game you wait for the next one and send that message to Malone.

It's time for the Habs to start protecting themselves. That attacking the Habs will have consequences.

I don't see anything longer than 2 years being in the cards without an over payment. I think we will 2-3 years in and around 1.75M-2.25M cap hit. Just enough time for him prove himself, provide us with needed depth and also gives young defense men like Tinordi, Ellis, Beaulieu, Thrower and Dietz time to emerge and evaluate their situation.
Just stopping in to toot my own horn.

Solid deal for both parties.
