Who gets to pick Mackinnon?

Straight up. Which team do you think will be the bottom feeder next year?

I think there is a solid chance it could be Columbus again (even though they lost the lottery this year). They'll be going full rebuild mode. Another possibility is Calgary, if they decide to blow it up and rebuild also.

Discuss.

Oilers. I just don't see their dynasty ending anytime soon.

Flames will barely miss the playoffs like always, so not them.

Detroit, imo.

I'd be happy with Barkov or Monahan though.

If there is a lockout, wouldn't the Leafs get the 1st overall for missing the playoffs for like 7-8 years?

Columbus, no team could use him more.

I don't think it'll be Edmonton, but if it is them somehow, oh my...

I can see Columbus having a decent chance to get him.

Way to early, let's see what us can bring that free agents markets, still a lot of trades to do. It's early.

Edmonton can't possibly be that bad again can they? Can they??

In all honesty, I think it will be Dallas. Lehtonen gets injured again and they're done. They could sure use him...

We've been through this on the Stars' board. If Lehtonen does get injured, we're ****ed. But the consensus is kind of that we'd prefer Jones over MacKinnon. #1 defenseman > #1 center.

Plus, Jones really fits what GMJN is looking for, and him being a local kid only helps us with that choice.

That and with our luck, we finish last and lose the lottery. We'd pick #2.

With our roster though, we may not even need Lehtonen to go down...

They'd probably get the best odds of getting it.... but Pittsburgh will probably win with a .1% chance (I'm kidding).

I would image Toronto, Winnipeg, Columbus and Florida all picking high

Also I think the Leafs will be picking top 3 next year if they don't get Luongo so I think they have a shot at Mackinnon

If Edmonton some how won the lottery again you would think they would choose a defenceman or trade down this time?

He could be a good second line center for the Islanders.

But I think the Bluejackets will have the worst record next year.

If it comes down to a Crosby ping-pong lottery, the Oilers.

Mind you, they had a decent shot at Crosby and got 25th that year.

I like the Oilers, but I don't think Edmonton should be allowed to pick #1 overall again next season. That would just be absurdly ridiculous, and horrible for league parity.

If the lottery was weighted the same way as the Crosby lottery was, Edmonton would have pretty much no chance of getting Mackinnon. A team like Toronto or Columbus would be much closer.

we'll have a better idea after July 1st, when teams can sign free agents and actually get better

besides, some scouts and publications have seth jones rated ahead of him, and obviously a lot could change in the span of a year.

Minnesota will have a surprisingly bad season and pick first over all
