Hearing don't look for huge front loaded or bonus offer from #pens but expect many years and btwn $7-8 M on #PariseWatch offer Sunday
If its true and they offer over 5 years..Parise will be a Penguin. Minnesota is said to be offering 9 per won't be enough for the chance to play on a contender year after year

I'm expecting Pens to offer Parise something in neighborhood of 10 years, $75-80 million.
While I really want Parise, I'm not big on a cap number like that for 10 years. He's good, but I worry about having him at 37/38 with a 8 mil cap hit. I wouldn't really want to go more than 7 years. Most good players play well into their late 30's, but some don't.
Don't get me wrong, I'd be happy to have him and would do it if that's what it too, but am more hoping if it's 10 years its not over 7 cap hit (don't know if that's possible with what others will offer).
yeah, don't want Parise on a high long contract. these type of contracts handcuff an organization. the only players that should get around a decade long contracts are Crosby and Malkin.
I don't expect the Penguins to make any signing moves without some plan in place to keep the "new" core in tact, if they sign Parise I will assume it is with a long-term plan in place and I won't be concerned at all.
Parise may not be an "elite" scorer, but what he brings in his other assets(including pulling more defenders off of 87 and 71), are more than worth the money, IMO.
IF they can sign him, and Dupuis keeps up his beast-mode next year. . .Dat top 6.
For a guy that's 27 years old, just coming off a 69 point healthy season 8 mil over 10 years is a hell of a lot even with the rising cap. Not worth it at all I think. I mean, that's only .7 mil less then what Crosby signed for. Does anyone honestly think he's less then one mil away from Crosby-like production?
If the Pens signed Crosby at 10.2 mil and Parise at 6.5 I think everyone would think they are 2 really good signings.
I don't see the difference if they give Crosby 8.7 and Parise 8....It's still 16.7 for those 2 players. Who knows, Crosby may have told Shero he'd sign for the same cap hit if he spent the extra money on Parise.
If the Pens give Parise around 6 million, I'll be ecstatic. If they give him around 7 million, I'll be satisfied. If they give him anymore than that...yikes.
Pens should go after a defensemen/goalie. They already can score, they need to stop the puck. When they won the cup it was with a very deep and well rounded out roster, but they have really dropped the ball when it comes to the backend.

I'd rather have Suter than Parise if it came down to it, but it sounds like he wants to stay in the west.

Yeah, the Penguins. Play Parise on Crosby's wing (and assuming both stay healthy) and you have a top tandem for the next 6 or so years.

Parise won't be signing for 6 million per unless it is a lifer contract with full NMC.
If Villie Leino can get 4.5 million per.... Parise should at least be making 3 million more a year than him. At least.

Here is why that doesn't make sense.
1. The Pens just traded one of their best two way players in Jordan Staal. They got a good return that included Brandon Sutter, but it does not make the team better.
2. Pens also just loaded up the depth on D, having Simon Despres, Joe Morrow and Scott Harrington. Drafting Derrick Pouliot and Olli Maata in the 1st round this year, plus adding Brian Dumoulin in the Staal trade. While we need help on D, it was the way the D played in the playoffs that was the problem, not the skill. Orpik, Letang, Martin and Niskanen are good defensemen and can play better when playing a more structured, team defensive style.
3. They probably will add a defenseman, but it doesn't have to be a Suter, Garrison or Carle, it can be Bryan Allen as a veteran stop gap.
4. Despite what fans around the league (and some Pens fans) think about Fleury, he's a pretty good goalie, he's competitive and I think the Philly series made people forget that Fleury was one of the better goalies in the league last year, at least he was in my opinion. He needs help with the work load and needs motivation to stay on his game, Tomas Vokoun should help with both.
I'd rather have Suter than Parise if it came down to it, but it sounds like he wants to stay in the west.
I think he wants to be near his farm in Wisconsin to be honest. So basically, Minnesota + any Central team is all who is really in the mix. It also sounds like that because he is not visiting with any teams tomorrow(only taking calls) that he probably has his mind made up and will just be waiting for everything to be finalized. Hopefully. If not, it could cost him a small fortune as the market dries up and teams move on.

If the Pens open their negotions with 6M, Shero probably gets kicked out of the building.
Though I'm not discounting the Penguins' ability to land Parise, people seem to forget that there are several other teams willing to give him long term/$7m+ contracts.

You assume he'd top his career highs. Who says Crosby or Malkin make him break the barrier into a 100 point player?
I'm just saying you don't give that kind of contract to a player unless they've proven they can do it not on the basis of they could do it just because of Crosby or Malkin.

If the best offer he gets is $6 M, I don't think he's leaving the Devils.
