Pretty much, it's his prove me wrong contract, just like stewart.

This. Somewhere between Bozak 1.5M and Macarthur 3.3M both for 2 years. I venture the sticking point is more about the length of the contract rather than the dollar amount.

stewart had two good years. Kuli had one. He should get a 1 year 2.5 million dollar contract.

he should just be told to sign his qualifing offer which will be the same he made last year. which imo he doesn't deserve a raise on. this gives him another year to prove the 30 goals wasn't a fluke

While it wasn't intentional, his most recent season really screwed him in regards to contract negotiations. He doesn't have much leverage so he's going to be realistic about his options when it comes to money and term.

That's about double what he should be getting, after last year. I'd be thrilled to see Kulemin shipped out. He'll never repeat that fluke 30.

3.5 for a guy who scored 30 goals?

Funny what 1 bad season can do to a player, but in all fairness he's only had 1 good one as well.

3-3.5 is good for him imo. 3 mill+ is the average for an NHLer.

This is pretty much impossible, is it not? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The current CBA dictates that to retain the rights of your RFA, you must tender a qualifying offer to that RFA before July 1st that is worth 110% of the original contract. In other words, you offer the RFA a contract that is 10% greater that his current contract. Kulemin's qualifying offer must have been $2.585 million ($2.35million + 10%). That's the lowest he can possibly get.

The QO depends on how much they make, the 10% raise is at the low-end of the salary structure. Kulemin's qualifying offer would be the match his current cap hit, so $2.2 million.

I just hope Kulemin doesn't give us a hard time again like last time around. His agent kept using the argument that he was on the 1st line, but that was only because we literally had no one else to play there and Wilson put Kuli with Bozak and Kessel, Burke acknowledged that as well. I have a feeling things could get ugly again because Kulemin's agent will probably use the fallback that he's only one year removed from a 30 goal season.

you guys are going way too low on your numbers.

to the point that when he does re-sign with us for what the market will dictate he is worth, there will be a minor uproar.

Kulemin will bounce back and be a key player for us I know it.

He's not going to have very much leverage after the year he just had. I wouldn't expect him to receive anything more than a short-term deal of $2.75M/year or less.

1 year deal is the worst thing we can possibly give him.

He has a good year then he would want a killing, how are we confident that it wasn't another fluke?

He has a bad year and Burke will think he's a 3rd liner, in which him/his agent will push for more money and we'll end up getting rid of him for peanuts.

2 years or more

He's an RFA, he doesn't have much leverage. Something around $3 mil per year for 3-4 years seems fair to me, that's a value roughly halfway between what he'd be worth for his 7 goal/28 point season and his 30 goal/57 point season. Honestly, I'd be fine with anything under $4 mil per year, as long as it's for a decent number of years (i.e. him giving up a decent number of UFA years), I think he bounces back a fair bit and becomes a consistent 20ish goal, 40ish point winger who provides good hustle, solid size and solid 2-way play. I hope we keep him, he's one of my favourite Leafs, but he could be a nice trade piece too if the right guy is available (i.e. as part of a package for a legit #1 C).

Just sign him short term and let him earn a better contract.

EDIT: Should be at least two years though.

If Burke pays 3-4mil for Kulemin he needs to have his head examined. Just move him and be done with it.

I think we sign him up for two, do it cheap for now. Kulemin unlike Stewart is also very reliable aside from being a goal scorer.
