Kulemin had one less point in 9 less games. Kulemin brings a lot to the table, and is an offensive threat, similar to what Colby was supposed to be for us.

I could see this happening.

For me, this is quite honestly the only memorable thing he did last season.

Which is why I'd be surprised if he were signed for as much as (or more than) Armstrong, when he's coming off a season similar to the one Armstrong had before signing here as a UFA.

The recently acquired James Van Riemsdyk, who has career best of 21 goals and 40 points highs, has a 6 year contract at $4.25 mil.

Nikolai Kulemin who already has a 30 goal 57 point season under his belt, has proven more at this point in a Leaf uniform..

The trading of Schenn for JVR another winger, all but sealed the fate of Kulemin as a Leaf and now makes him expendable in trade as a result. Contract talk difficulties just another reason to push him out the door now. IMO

Oh absolutely. I don't want to deal him at all. Selling low on Kulemin could blow up in our faces, but I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me.

JVR is younger and still has higher upside, moving Kulemin for another need would be good asset management if he's asking for too much because of one good year.

Wouldn't it be something if Burke could translate Kulemin , plus ? ? for Bobby Ryan?

Yes it would be awesome than Burke can change the Maple Leaf crest to a crest with a Star in the center written with "USA" on the jersey. The Leafs will then become the NHL equivalent of Team USA.

Ship him outta here. His agent is likely to ask for Grabovski type of money and he is no where near that kind of commitment. His production fell off so much last year and the excuse of his freinds being in the plan that crashed in Russia is not enough justify why he was barely on the ice last year unfortunately. He had 1 good year and we need to make room on the 2nd line for Nazem Kadri who will undoubately produce if given more than 10 games to do so this time.

And buying high and giving him a long-term contract could just as easily blow up in the Managments faces as well.

Its that kind of thinking that pushed Alex Steen out the door for Lee Stempniak.

I think you sign him cheaper on a two or three year deal. Sure he had a great year but he had one equally as disappointing. Not sure he has a ton of leverage here.

I doubt it. His roots are here now. Wife, kid, best friend named Grabo. It will get resolved one way or another, but he's not going to defect...lol....

Pay the guy a lil extra. Whatever it takes to get him locked into a 2-3 year deal. One of the biggest issues with the leafs is team defense, specifically from the forwards. Kulemin is exactly the type of player that Burke and Carlyle covet. I doubt he'll ever put up another 30goal season, but he can easily be an annual 20 goal scorer while being defensively reliable, not to mention tough as nails. Get it done Burkie.

What the hell happened to him.
He went from scoring like what 30? to less than 10 goals?

can someone shed some light for a non-leaf fan?

Grabovski was a UFA coming off of a good season and was far and away the best center on the team.

Kulemin is an RFA coming off of an awful season on a team with an overabundance of 2nd/3rd line wingers.

i would keep Kuli. He had a very good year and a bad year... Sign him to a 3 year deal worth $3M.

Unless he can be dealt for a #1C or #1G...

finally some reason here.

we are lucky in a sense he had a down years last year. now we can get great value out of him and we should sign him for 3 years if possible. He will represent great bang for buck going forward I doubt he ever has a down season again.

all the other things he brings on the ice along with the goals are worth it.

kulemin doesnt have a leg to stand on after a 7 goal season. We should be able to get him cheap.
