Semin if he was being reasonable with his demands OR if they decided to give him the money but not the term (2 years 14 million for example) he slots in somewhere below Doan but above Jagr and Whitney.

Mueller I think they'll have interest in, if they can't get any of those top 3 and the 3 midrange guys are being unreasonable. One year flyer would be intriguing.

Same with Latendresse if nothing else fits.

Can't rule out Kostitsyn to be honest. Him and Eller were great and he's a proven 20 goal guy in the NHL with decent size, speed and grit.

Where do you think they'll be looking?
I dont think they will. But if they do I believe Semin is the perfect fir for Pleks and Gionta. No doubt he has issues but theres also no doubt the man can score. Also, would love to toughen up the 4t th line. Staubitz would be good but Prust even better, he can penalty kill and take actaully knows how to play hockey. I think the D is set cause sadly kabere isnt going anywhere.

5. Sign P-A Parenteau
6. Acquire Steve Ott from Dallas
7. Acquire Ryan Clowe from San Jose (Bourque +?)
8. Add a physical, shut-down D-man (Bryan Allen?), and an Offensive D-am with a big shot (Jason Garrison?)
9. Add some depth on Forward (Zenon Konopka?)

2012-2013:

Parise-Plekanec-Parenteau

Legit Scoring Top Line, need I say more?

Pacioretty-Desharnais-Cole

Another good line that can score

Leblanc-Eller-Clowe

Gives us 3 legit scoring lines

Ott-Konopka-White

Tough guy, beat up Boston line?

Subban-Markov

Veteran puck-mover + young rising star

Allen-Garrison

Big, physical, shutdown player + offensive guy with a big shot

Emelin-Diaz

Hard-hitter + skilled puck-mover

Price-Budaj

All-star starter + decent backup

This looks like a playoff team to me, and a futute contender, with Galchenyuk, Beaulieu, Tinordi, Collberg, Thrower, Gallagher, etc... coming through the pipeline.

what happened to Gorges?

Maybe I'll just end this conversation now, since it's clear that you aren't willing to listen to logic or reason about why I would prefer a vet over a young player with serious injury concerns.
We have young prospects coming up. Eventually you have to make space for them. Asset management is the name of the game.

I understand WHY you prefer a veteran. I am just saying that your move to acquire a veteran is safe and smart, it is by no mean a shrewd move. A shred move is taking a flyer on a guy (or two) who has the talent to produce big time in the league but has been de-railed for one reason or another. If it doesnt work, you spent little in both dollar and term and you cut your loss. If it does, you have a valuable asset to trade or keep on the team. An aging veteran comes with a higher contract and is virtually untradable except for a minimal return. You can spend a 3 year contract on Doan but if he declines significantly in year 2, you're not going to get anything for him because they know he is done. If Mueller or Lats come here, perform well on year 1 but have a down year on year 2, they're still young and a year removed from putting a good season together, thus have value on the market.

Right, my mistake, completely forgot

Then we don't need Allen.

Subban - Markov

Gorges - Garrison

Emelin - Diaz

My cousin (a die hard red wings fan) said that reports out of DET mentionned that Jiri Hudler was in MTL During the grand prix weekend with a Montreal Impact jersey signed.. Anyone know if this is true?

Doan is one the best guys you could ask for to mentor young players.

I wouldn't mind him for 1 or 2 years, but I highly doubt he'd accept that to come to Montreal.

Yes, but wasn't it proven to be Vinny Prospal ? Seems to me that Brisebois had stated it was him.

Doan got all the blame though. Not sure he'd want to sign here after everything he went through.

After those idiotic politicians (Coderre) and language controversies, many fans still wonder why most FAs have not had Montreal as their top destinations...

I sincerely doubt Parise or Suter would still want to join a team that finished last in the East. Some can keep dreaming though.

My REALISTIC lineup for October:

Pacioretty - Desharnais - Cole
Gionta - Plekanec - Bourque
Leblanc - Gaustad- Eller
Prust - White - Moen

Markov - Emelin
Gorges - Subban
Kaberle - Allen/Gill

Gaustad is a big center who excells at faceoffs while Prust is a great PK who can fight and contribute offensively. If we can't get Allen then we can bring back Gill for 1 last year.

I like the 3rd line, but Gaustad is going to get 3.5 a year. He wont be on a 4th line.
I would love Crowe.

Feaster's not the smartest GM out there. The Flames desperately need somebody who knows how to re-build properly. Jay says ''scrap that'' and decides to trade a draft pick and a prospect for an overachieving, aging defenseman and signs him to a huge contract. Just brilliant.
